The American River Parkway is a true treasure in the landscape of Sacramento. The parkway is a 23 mile, 4,600 acre expanse of land, water and nature. Our forefathers were smart in wanting to protect this wonderful resource hence creating a regional park!

The American River Parkway Foundation was created in 1983 with the vision of the parkway being a sustainable natural resource to all. To that end, the Foundation coordinates programs and works with volunteers to foster environmental stewardship, facilitate volunteer opportunities, as well as fund and implement Parkway projects.

What a wonderful part of enjoying Sacramento!

If you visit Sacramento and you're into cycling, running, hiking, nature, etc., I strongly recommend a visit to the Parkway.

Access it at Discovery Park, Arden Way (William B. Pond), Sunrise Blvd, or Hazel Ave. (Nimbus Fish Hatchery).

If you live in or near Sacramento, don't repeat my mistake and let years pass without visiting and appreciating it -- it's one of the best things going in our region!

It's the quickest, easiest way to escape the city, and it's really quite beautiful. Every time I'm there, which is quite a lot, I can't help but be reminded of the life and times of the first settlers to our region.

Do I like this place? No... I love it! My brother turned me on to the Parkway about five years ago. His backyard opens up to the parkway. How beautiful is that? My kids and I loved it. The last two years we looked for a house on the same side of his street. Found one last year so we couldhave the same. Deer, coyote, turkey, in our backyard. Waking up and coffee with the views and wildlife. Our great neighbours. The good schools. The trails. The RIVER! We feel safe, and blessed. In the spring, we enjoy the wildflowers. In summer, the river every day. The bike trails from Folsom to Sacramento and beyond! Bestplace on earth! Here's a pic from my bedroom window.

The ARPF is an awesome foundation helping to preserve one of Sacramento's greatest assets... the parkway aka our amazing bike trail.
They put on the annual Rex Ride, coordinate The Great American River Cleanup along with many other great events. My favorite is the annual Down River Day.

Very quiet, right before sunrise and sunset the fawn and all other nature comes out and greets you, almost like their accepting you into their land. Very mystical and very cool. The trails go on for days and the ppl are so friendly. There is those times that u run into ppl that don't have their pet on a leash and it's very unfortunate that they don't know how to read signs

My favorite place on earth, my home.
Supposedly the largest - or second largest (Paris would be the contender) - urban parkway in the world. Places such as this aren't nearly as common as I feel they should be, given the huge variety of benefits they provide to their respective communities.
This land is a gift to all people and animals who make use of it. It's truly sacred ground.

Beautiful parkway located on the banks of the American River. Plenty of hiking/biking trails, and spots of picnics and bbqs.

Sacramento's gem of a bike trail, where you can ride for many miles without cars. It can get really busy in the weekends.
