We couldn’t have asked for a better meal from Smokehouse Catering. The prime rib was excellent, the Halibut Alyeska was delicious as were the potato and salad side dishes. Thanks to the Chef for a fantastic meal!

The beauty of the Alaskan mountaintops. The majesty of a whale cresting the water. Could anything upstage these experiences? Yes, Smokehouse catering can, and did.

Mostapha, the man who served our food, was a funny, friendly guy who told us “you will tell me ‘this is the best seafood chowder I have ever had!’” Having had dozens of seafood soups and chowders, I didn’t believe him. However, he undersold his superior cooking skills. Everything from the pasta, the smoked salmon dip, to the reindeer sausage and the lingcod were sublime, each a powerhouse dish in itself. Special kudos go out to the reindeer sausage, cause while reindeer can normally have a very gamey taste, the flavor invokes a well-made Andouille sausage while accentuating the taste of the reindeer.

The coup de grace, however, is surely the seafood chowder. The flavor is indescribable: creamy without being heavy; the taste of the ocean without being overly salty. Well-balanced while still packing a punch in flavor, how can one describe it in words.

So the only downside is that I have to leave. Do I upend my home, travel halfway across the world, and settle down in Alaska just so I can have Mostapha’s cooking all the time? I have considered this multiple times during the event.

With the food being so good, Mostapha being an absolute delight, and being tribal owned, I can’t sing Smokehouse Catering’s praises enough. If you are lucky enough to live in Alaska, please visit and become a patron. You will not regret it!

I see them all the time on our dock catering whale-watching tours. I got to try their food this evening for the first time and it's fire, people! Two thumbs up!
