I have started volunteering in the kitchen at the Zion Shelter in December 2022. It really reminds me of my church in Pennsylvania. They serve lunch to the homeless in the shelter as well as anyone who wants it. M-F Between 10:30 & 11am. It is served to go. The first day I volunteered they served 63 meals, and all of the food is donated. They always need proteins and canned vegetables. Plus toiletries and warm clothes for men. Because of the the limited budget, the shelter closes at 7am and reopens at 9pm. Lights out at 10. You MUST call before you come as they are frequently at capacity. The residents are on their own for the day. But Washington is a small town and the person who complained about the lack of services, Beaufort County social services is 7 tenths of a mile away & handles everything except SSI. The social security office is less than 2 miles away. The residents I spoke to were generally happy to have a safe and warm place to stay. The generosity of the people of Washington is incredible. The photos of people are volunteers from MLK day in January 2023.. Highly recommended!

The Zion Shelter and Kitchen is an amazing place that provides a hot meal for the community of Beaufort County. The Zion Shelter and Kitchen also provide a hot shower and a warm/cool place to sleep at night, we also have a case worker that helps assist all men in the Shelter find jobs, housing, and assists them with insurance applications and/or veteran programs so each and every single man staying at the Shelter can eventually become independent and manage their own lives successfully. The Zion Shelter and Kitchen have provided services for the homeless since 1982, and our mission is very important to us and all employees and volunteers take pride in everything we do. The Zion Shelter and Kitchen rely solely on food/monetary donations from the community in order to make our mission possible..
