It’s not about the food, but about how I felt when I left there yesterday. After my bank account was overdrawn by Boost Mobile for unexpected charges I found myself without food to carry me through the weekend. I googled food banks and was led to World Harvest on Venice. I called and explained that to a lady who told me that I had to pay $50 to shop and get $300 worth of food. I told her that I could do that on the 3rd , but I didn’t have any money today and I just needed some food to carry me through the weekend. She told me to come. I took the bus over and she gave me a half filled grocery bag with 1 pack of English muffins, 1 apple, 2 packs of red berries, 1 cup of pumpkin spice cream cheese, 4 tiny packages of pumpkin spice mini muffins and two very hard mangoes, and a can of unsweetened , dark coffee with 225 mgs of caffeine. I was expecting at least to be given a meat, a vegetable and a starch.
Don’t get me wrong. I appreciate that she gave me something, but there was an abundance of “real” food there and I wondered why she gave me what she did. I looked at the bag and was so shocked and confused that I just took it and left. I didn’t feel good at all, but I still thanked God!
However, I felt that that was symbolic of what she thought of me. I’m a 78 years old Black Woman. I showed it to a woman in a wheelchair at the bus stop. She said that she lived across the street from there for 8 years and she wasn’t surprised that I was treated as I was. I don’t know what the reason was for her to give me what she did when she had so much food and it is a charitable organization. I’m an individual and I have been known to put together a complete meal for someone else.

What can I say? You pay $50 and get a whole cart full of groceries. But what’s actually in it? Half the cart was filled with tomatoes—so many tomatoes! 😂 Then there was a box of snacks with chips and popcorn that turned out to be completely tasteless. The only things we could eat from the box were the dried pineapple and mango. Another half of the cart was bread—way too much to finish.

There were also a few thick-skinned cucumbers, 4 cans of not-so-great coffee, a couple of sauces, 10 eggs, and some random trinkets with bandanas. We even found a couple of toys. As for the persimmons, they were so soft that by the time we got home, they had turned into mush.

Unfortunately, a lot of it had to be thrown away—there was just no way to eat that many tomatoes, snacks, bread, or coffee. Lesson learned!

I was blown away by the quality of food given! Just a small donation gets you a cart full of healthy produce, breads and poultry. The owner Glen is very genuine and kind. And his staff Jesse, and Carmen and the women working hard there, were awesome! Highly recommend this place for anyone in need or wishing to save money on food!! Thank God for this place! Check it out🙋‍♀️

This is a food bank, so the variety of fruits, veggies and other items will vary from day to day. The parking is really bad to almost non-existent. However, if you plan your visit and allow time to find or wait for parking, bring an ice chest for refrigerated items and take your time to organize yourself, you will find this little "social market" to be a rare gem! Donate $40 to receive at least $200 or more in groceries. Don't have high expectations and you will be pleasantly surprised. For example, they will have bread, but they may only have white bread. Other times, they'll have ciabatta or artisan loaves with no labels. I personally love it! You will too. When you go, use my name, Monique Noriega, as your referral. They will give you a punch card to use to save even more money!

I was so blessed by the love I received today from the food donation offered. The people are amazing and the food is plenty, so much that I too was able to bless a handful of homeless people.. I was able to stop an old guy from picking thru the trash.. But for the Grace of God.. Thank you Glen & Chello and the entire Food Bank family! See you next week!!

This place is so amazing in so many ways.

Glen, the dedicated director, Sheila, the outstanding operations manager, and the entire staff are dedicated to ending hunger at every opportunity.

They have fresh produce, meats, fish, breads, fruit, and drinks.

We enjoy going by to see what goodies they have available; we are always blessed to come away with a car loaded down with fresh food. Our neighbors, family and friends are thankful whenever we make our run to World Harvest, because they benefit from the food as well.

We found out Kevin from Bludsoe's also donates his delicious BBQ meats here, and it's as good as if you went directly to the restaurant 😋

L.A.'s newest mayor, Mayor Bass, has even tapped into using World Harvest in her goal of ending homelessness and hunger in the city of angels.

Everyone should make a trip to World Harvest, the work they do to end hunger is stellar.

Volunteers are needed to keep the volume of food moving. The concept is amazing and the results could be life-changing.
Be a part of this necessary humanitarian effort, it's awesome.

Give them a visit.
Volunteer, and be blessed🙏🏼

This place is amazing and a life saver for many. Not your typical food bank where you get a bag or box of canned food. You get a WHOLE cart with fruits and vegetables and bread. Helps stretch that paycheck a little bit longer. Man many thanks to World Harvest !!
