DO NOT SEEK HELP HERE TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCE
We are a homeless family of 6, the Center and the Director Silva are liars. They did not call when they said they would, a single time. Did not even try to reach out to us, and Silva said she would call me and had work resources for my partner and she LIED.
We were told that we were not "homeless enough" and that if we were to be staying at a shelter rather than a weekly we might be able to qualify for some help, and that our freelance income was not "verifiable" and did everything we could to be rejected for any assistance.

We have extreme foster system trauma, and we're told by social services that we'd be putting our children at risk of being taken if we didn't provide our own place instead of a shelter. They didn't care. And their screener scheduled us for an appointment when we didn't pass the screening anyways for intake.... and the interviewer dodged direct qualifications questions and was misleading intentionally and was inept at navigating any aspect of the hurdles to access that we were expected to be able to handle tho....

Silva. You're a liar. And a horrible Executive Director.

$28 million in assets but you can't help a homeless family? But there's plenty of money for plastic surgery if you want that. 🤔

The hired staff is condescending. The organization itself is a farce. They do some good in the community but other organizations do the same thing but better and deserve more attention. Perfect example of superficial and whitewashed activism.

The whole Staff are the SWEETEST, I arrived early this morning and Stevie welcomed me in with a nice smile and gave me all the necessary information to proceed with my tests. Then Sarah came introducing herself to me in a warm way. During the interview procedures, she was clear, objective and also very kind. She removed all my doubts and definitely I left the place not just with a great relief inside of me but also the pleasure to have met those helpful and amazing people that work for the LGBT community.

Literally the absolute worst experience with these “allies.” I was/am in dire need of help and they threw me to the side as if I were trash. They are rude, unhelpful and I don’t believe they are actual allies. I was forced to temporarily move home to Tennessee due to things beyond my control. I let them know that I would be back and this is an extended vacation. They let me know, through a text message, that they wouldn’t help me. They did this with the knowledge that I had a suicide attempt just two months ago. They literally do not care in the least bit. If you go here for help, just know that you’re just a number in their eyes. They said all of this to me as if I would have any help at all in my home state. As a gay man, I don’t feel welcome at home and now I don’t even feel welcomed in my own community. I feel like they heard my accent and judged the hell out of me. I have never felt less important than I did with the center.

Used to come here 6 years ago when it used to be a great place for gay men to come to. A QUIET computer room with normal chairs that were comfortable. A community board to help find jobs and housing. A friendly front desk staff that was helpful, without attitude, and didn’t constantly talk to one another loudly. Getting a WiFi password without red tape. A men’s bathroom with urinals. I’m guessing they are trying to be “woke”. Not sure who all are in charge here, but it isn’t working and has really gone downhill. Won’t be back until changes are made or some people lose their jobs.

A four star because I believe what you're doing is important, but that being said, what you do IS important...and I can't get the assistance I need because I work 8-5... in Escondido. Sad how indifferently I was told that the only place that had a night clinic for us people that can't get away from my 8-5 job, was the nearby family health center that does not take my insurance. Disappointed to a 1 star- level nonetheless.

I've had really positive experiences at the San Diego LGBT Community Center. I appreciate all that they have given and still actively give, to the community at large. Every meeting and happening that I've participated in there has opened my eyes in some way. They have a great way of balancing education and fun. Many thanks to all who work there & labor on behalf of some of the most vulnerable people in our county. With Love, Rev. Kat
