Tarboro Road Community Center: A Comprehensive Overview

The Tarboro Road Community Center, located at 121 N Tarboro St, Raleigh, NC 27610, stands as a vital resource within the Raleigh community. Contact information includes a telephone number of 99966505 and a website at raleighnc.gov. This facility operates primarily as a community center and a park, offering a diverse range of programs and recreational opportunities for residents of all ages. The center’s commitment to accessibility is evident through its wheelchair accessible entrance and wheelchair accessible parking lot, ensuring inclusivity for everyone.

Location and Accessibility

Situated in the heart of Raleigh, the Tarboro Road Community Center benefits from a central location, making it easily accessible for many residents. The address, 121 N Tarboro St, Raleigh, NC 27610, places it within a well-connected area. The commitment to accessibility is a significant feature; the presence of both a wheelchair accessible entrance and parking lot demonstrates a dedication to inclusivity and ensuring that all individuals can fully participate in the center's offerings. Nearby public transportation options further enhance its convenience.

Services and Programs

The Tarboro Road Community Center provides a broad spectrum of services and programs designed to cater to a diverse demographic. These typically include fitness classes, arts and crafts workshops, senior programs, youth activities, and community events. While a comprehensive list of current offerings can be found on the Raleigh Parks and Recreation website, the center consistently strives to meet the evolving needs of the local population. The facility’s layout, though perhaps facing some challenges as noted in user feedback, is dedicated to fostering a vibrant and engaging community environment.

User Feedback and Considerations

Recent user feedback, reflected in a Google My Business rating of 4.4/5 and 62 reviews, provides valuable insights into the center’s strengths and areas for improvement. A recurring theme in the reviews highlights the desirability of the nice classes offered. However, certain aspects of the facility, particularly the smaller rooms, have been identified as potentially uncomfortable due to high temperatures and humidity. Specifically, one reviewer noted a room being “TOO HOT AND HUMID” and expressed difficulty participating in classes within it. The presence of a floor fan in a corner, while intended to provide relief, was deemed “way too loud to use” suggesting a need for improved ventilation solutions. Several users have suggested the installation of more comfortable and quieter fan options, referencing the positive experience at the Five Points Active Adults Center, which utilizes standing, oscillating fans. The suggestion of investing in these types of fans, often available at a low cost (e.g., $40), has been repeatedly made. It appears that the center’s current approach to addressing these concerns has been deemed insufficient, with staff acknowledging the requests but failing to implement changes.

Facility Features and Amenities

Beyond the program offerings, the Tarboro Road Community Center boasts several features designed to enhance the user experience. The large gym, equipped with a ceiling fan, provides ample space for physical activity and group events. This particular feature is frequently praised for its comfort, contrasting with the issues experienced in smaller rooms. The accessible design, including the accessible entrance and parking, is a crucial element for inclusivity. Wheelchair accessible parking lot is an important benefit for patrons with mobility issues.

Contact and Further Information

To obtain the most up-to-date information regarding program schedules, registration details, and community events, prospective users are encouraged to visit the Raleigh Parks and Recreation website at raleighnc.gov. Nice classes, one shower. Nice ceiling fan in large gym. Small room, about 1/3 the size of a gym, is TOO HOT AND HUMID! I can’t handle taking a class in there. The fan they have on the floor in the corner is way too loud to use! Useless! I asked staff last week if they could please buy one or two fans that are on a stand, and oscillating, like the Five Points Active Adults Center has, and I told them that Walmart sells them for only $40! But they said no, no money for that. I wish they would pass the request on to their supervisor but they said it wouldn’t do any good. 😔

Can't believe this place doesn't have at least a 4.5 rating. I play Pickleball there when the weather doesn't comply outside. The lighting out of all facilities to play in Raleigh is the best. It's very easy to see the ball. Friendly community of folks.

Excellent facility that is clean and safe. Staff are kind and helpful. This is a wonderful place for children to brush up on any athletic skills needed. The glow in the dark soccer with Paladin sports here is amazing!

The 2 employees that were there outside giving all the covid tests did an amazing job moving the line, explaining the procedure and being compassionate with the results.
