It was awful. The staff except one worker were rude. They blame it on being busy. Having recently lost my service dog of fourteen years as am a veteran and injured worker. I've been so sad since he passed. My ex thought going to see animals might help. I did. The dogs are so wonderful. The staff made me feel as if I was a bother. We're rude. Didn't answer questions nor acodomated me to spend time with any animals. It's non condusive to having an open heart, clear mind, when being " pushed out," so to speak. I was going to volunteer. I could never work with such jaded, entitled people. It's not lost on me that it isn't an easy job. They are busy. Yet. They chose. It's unfair to the animals. My ex witnessed it,as she works az a nurse at sempervirens. She was taken aback by the behavior shown by the people who work there. There was only one great employee. He did his best. Explained. Was professional and understanding. He did admit they had a " long day", well we all do sometimes. He was disappointed in his coworkers' attitude, yet more sad I'd changed my mind to volunteer.
They are doing a disfavor to the animals. I then visited McKinleyville County. The difference wss shocking as they were much more professional n maybe it was personal and others have had good experiences. I hope so. It's privately owned, i think. Some customer service training might not hurt.

Went to meet a cat to possibly adopt. They gave us a private room and brought her in. It's really nice to get some one on one time before deciding if we thought she would be a good match with us. She was and I'm happy to say I will be picking her up Tuesday 😄. The staff were all super nice. I would like to add , and this is big reason I wanted to adopt from Sequoia Humane Society is they are a No Kill Shelter. Will share pics after I bring my sweet girl home

I have to ask yall this in the state of California where does it say that I have to take my dog to the dog park. cause according to Kim the boss lady or whoever she is said that I had an agreement to take my dog to the dog park if so, where is the written agreement? cause I don't remember signing any agreement stating that i had to take my dog to the dog park . Oh she also admitted to me and my wife that she leaves all the dogs and cats outside in the blazing hot sun , pouring down rain, cold weather and hail. umm that's animal cruelty last time I checked. but unfortunately me and my wife are being forced to take the dog back because he chewed up my passing father in laws chair which we were not mad about and that we didn't take him to the dog park which is over by a over pass here in Fortuna. I have a wife who had eye surgery and 9 month old son. if my son and wife gets hit by a car because my wife is currently blind and can't see while trying to go to said dog park. now me and wife love this pup and our son very much and I don't want to give up I honestly don't that's all folks

Had a great time working with Sequoia Humane Society. We found our perfect little Nugget(aka Lotus), to join the family. The application process was simple to do online with a quick response via phone about our approval. From there it was great being able to make arrangements to facilitate meetings with potential candidates. My son's ASD and sensory processing make it difficult to go into the pen area, the staff was very nice and helpful making alternative options available. I kept up to date on the available adoption list, looking for someone who fit what we were looking for in a new family member/therapy companion. From there I called in adding our names to the lists of everyone we were looking at. Within a few months we found our sweet girl and could not be more happy.

I spent 40 years waiting for my best friend. On May 1st of 2012, somehow the planets aligned and the fine folks at Sequoia Humane introduced me to my rescue-er and best friend.

This dog was then called Treasure, just turned 2 and had already been given up to the Humane Society twice. I later learned he was called a ‘problem pup’ and was the only dog that ever climbed out of their kennel.

It wasn’t only waiting 40 years and the astrological alignment of planets that brought us together. It was the experience, knowledge, expertise and skill of the staff at Sequoia Humane. They knew this dog was insecure and suffered from separation anxiety. He is a beautiful animal and a lot of the wrong people would have been easily tempted to take him home where he would have failed again.

When I contacted the Sequoia Humane Society about him, I explained that I am an adult single man who wants a dog as a 24 / 7 companion. And further, that there would be no other animals in our home.

I was encouraged to meet “Treasure”.

I still remember driving 3 hours to Eureka and meeting a dog that was pretty reserved, until he knew he was leaving.

It has been 7 fantastic years. Treasure has been renamed Einstein and is the best friend I have ever had. Einstein is with me 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. AKC “good Citizen”, extraordinarily well behaved. Flies with me. Loves other dogs.

When I see a review from someone who was not offered the animal of their dreams, I really hope people will realize the extraordinary importance of matching the right animal with the right people. A bad match - even with good intentions - is just cruel.

The process can’t be easy or perfect but I can not thank the fine staff at Sequoia Humane for my best friend, Einstein. They nailed this match 100% .
