If you are considering adopting a bird from Phoenix Landing, think twice. This is not a real rescue—it’s a gatekeeping operation where certain birds are never actually available. They will waste your time, lie to you, and then erase birds from existence when you start asking questions.

I went through every step of their adoption process. I took all the required classes, passed my home visit with no issues, and was told I was approved. Then, the moment I showed interest in a young, healthy African Grey named Clyde, everything changed.

First, they ignored me for days. I followed up multiple times—no response. Then, suddenly, I was told “no dogs” was a dealbreaker even though my home visit had ZERO concerns. Meanwhile, Sharon, their foster, has CATS. If a home with multiple cats is acceptable, then why was my home with two old, lazy bulldogs suddenly an issue? Because this was never about my home. It was about keeping Clyde with Sharon.

I reached out to Ann, the owner/founder of Phoenix Landing, to get answers. And instead of being honest, she made excuse after excuse. Her final response? That Clyde “opted for his prospective family.”
Let’s be real—birds don’t “opt” for their adopters. That’s not how adoption works. That was nothing more than a pathetic attempt at deflection.

And then, just like that, Clyde disappeared from their website. No "adopted" status, no transparency—just erased.

We both know why. Clyde was never actually available for adoption. Sharon—who calls herself “The Grey Lady”—was NEVER going to let him go. My entire family saw her making excuses during my home visit, looking for any reason to keep him. Instead of actually adopting out birds, they push the older, sick birds while hoarding the young, healthy ones.

This is not how a real rescue operates. No legitimate rescue:
❌ Erases birds from their website when questioned
❌ Ghosts adopters after they follow every rule
❌ Lets fosters keep birds under false pretenses
❌ Rejects homes with fake excuses while allowing homes with multiple cats
❌ Lies to adopters instead of just being transparent

If you want to actually adopt a bird, go somewhere else. Phoenix Landing has zero transparency, zero ethics, and zero respect for adopters who genuinely want to provide a loving home.

And to Clyde’s original owner—if you ever find this, I hope you know the truth. You gave him up expecting he would get a second chance at a loving home. But he never got that chance. Instead of being adopted into a real family, he was taken in by a foster who was never going to let him go.

At the end of the day, karma always has a way of coming back around. What goes around, comes around—and Phoenix Landing will eventually have to answer for the way they mislead adopters and deny birds a real chance at a forever home.

The folks at Phoenix Landing are an amazing group of people, dedicated to the proper care, and welfare of all parrots big and small .
They will educate on you on all aspects possible of having a companion parrot and I guarantee you'll learn allot you didn't know.
Anyone I've met from Phoenix landing has been knowledgeable, friendly and compassionate about birds and most of all they truly , honestly care about each and every parrot's welfare.
I adopted a large Macaw and could be happier. Phoenix Landing makes sure you and your new friend are a good match. That way, it's beneficial for you and the parrot . It gives you the very best start of a long , happy life together.
Anne, she is phenomenal and that's an understatement. She is so very knowledgeable, she could probably teach the birds about themselves.! Anne is one of those people you constantly wonder, "how does she do all that in any given day?" . Friendly (genuinely), highly educated, completely devoted , and Anne is ready to answer anything you need to know. On the slim, outside, chance she doesn't know, she will research it and educate you!
Don't let the name rescue fool you. Sadly some birds do get mistreated. However, the majority of parrots at Phoenix Landing have lost their owners to sickness or they outlived their former owner,,or the owner moved or had a major life event that prevented them from caring for their avian friend.
If you're looking, seriously looking, for a parrot and plan to give it the very best home possible, check out Phoenix Landing.
It's a wonderful place with caring, dedicated people and healthy gorgeous birds (that need a new home and partner for life )

My expirence was totally and completely positive and Phoenix Landing is number one.
Lastly, the birds for adoption shown on their website are just a small group of parrots needing a forever home. There are many, many more parrots out there who are not listed that need a too. Big birds, small , and medium . They all need love and stability. But , really, don't we all!
You will not be disappointed!

I think its awesome that this establishment gets 4.7 stars .I have only ever had one experience with them and it was the worst. Maybe they are great. But my experience with Anne, Was definitely NOT! We never got around to having children, so our five parrots have become our children. We have fostered quite a few in the last handful of years. Well, it was time that one of our babies needs desperately to be re-homed and after going through the rigmarole of the relinquishing application, we were Disturbingly Responded with a message saying “our child just needed more toys”!?!?!? !!!!!!!!!!!!, (right, what and how, Miss Cleo, do you know this)!
This coming from us having our children free-roam our five bedroom house INCLUDING a wide open sun-lit basement and having perches and cages in EVERY room individually tailored to their liking with endless amounts of toys and Only the Highest-End Food possible, including fresh fruits, and organic salad made Daily!!!. Not to mention their own bedrooms! Not to mention my going behind them and keeping the house clean day and night! We are quite literally the perfect family to consider as a candidate for fosters or adoptions. I was just too busy to go through all the videos of the basic ins and outs of parrot care to get into that program of theirs. I started once or twice and completely understand the necessity of it; but even still - when we were honestly considering what were to happen with them if we suddenly passed or God forbid who knows what - we hoped this would be the place we could put our trust to include in our living will, however; unless someone reaches out to us and apologizes for Anne’s absolutely unprofessional, and unacceptable Response message; We will continue to have a chip on our shoulder and tell everybody In the parrot world that we come across us - that whoever Represents this nonprofit - is absolutely awful. Thank you for letting us vent! Sadly, almost a year later, we still need to re-home him and it is with a Heavy heart and the most difficult decisionTo have to post something like an ad on craigslist. It feels cheap! We were supposed to be able to turn to A rescue for this matter. Thanks a lot Anne.

The organization has a user friendly system for the process of adoption. The educational materials, courses and workshops are beneficial for adoption. I think every bird should go through the process.

We adopted Kiwi, 21 year old Senegal in January 2021. They worked with us on behavior solutions and were available to assist the adoption process. Kiwi screamed for 2+ days non-stop when he came to our home. It takes 6 months for some birds to adjust. Mostly for the human's to get to know them and read their body language.

Now, Kiwi has traveled the east coast, only sleeps in a cage, and is a happy well adjusted bird. I highly recommend Phoenix Landing's adoption process!

This is a fantastic organization. If you are interested in owning a parrot, consider fostering and/or adopting through them. Our family has no bird experience and was matched with an adorable and affectionate conure named Buddy. We have relied on the support of staff and volunteers there every step of the way. Bonus was attending a bird care class and picking him up (at a later date) at their absolutely sylvan headquarters just outside of Asheville.

I own a Cleaning company that was called to come out and clean an apartment. I was amazed at the level of care these beautiful birds receive! They have a Vet Tech that LIVES with them. Literally! I was so happy to get to see some of the amazing Birds they have. I am so thankful for what they do here!

You think if you adopt a parrot from Phoenix landing. It's truly yours . NOPE it's not Phoenix Landing still owns them . So do your homework before you decide to do this
This really hurts a lot I paid pretty money for my parrots. To find out they still not mine at all
