I've been a teacher here for three years. It's a wonderful place for students who need a small, safe environment. The students are funny and interesting; they need lots of attention and support and they get it here. The kids are nice and the staff cares a lot about them. The school is flexible, always making changes to get better. It's a great place to work and go to school.

I do not recommend this high school. There are plenty of other options in the San Francisco Bay Area to send your troubled teen. There are some kids here who have been bullied, or just don't fit in to their local high school; however, many of these kids are troubled for emotional or drug related reasons. The student makeup of the school is misrepresented and on you 'intake' exam you will be promised that this is the perfect fit for your child. My child went here for three years and the first year was wonderful as she associated with some kids who didn't have serious issues. The second and third year was a disaster as there were so many kids here that abused drugs and smoked and she was introduced to it and discovered that she really liked drugs!. I am not saying that she wouldn't have been exposed to drugs in other schools but it was a bad situation here. The teacher's for the most part were really good and I commend them. My problem was with the administration. I don't think they are qualified to run a school and definitely don't have the degrees that would prepare them for such an endeavor. When asked about their degree they become very defensive. The police were commonly at the school and there were kids who had committed some serious offenses. Please, if this is a school you are considering, give it good consideration and when the administration tells you that it is a perfect fit ask if they are just being self-serving and want your tuition.

Palo Alto Prep was a wonderful, life-changing experience that has given me an opportunity I would not have found anywhere else. Next week I am graduating and in the fall I will be attending Cal Poly SLO. If it weren't for the unique and eclectic learning environment Palo Alto Prep provided me, where I was able to thrive and succeed in a multitude of ways, I would not be the person I am today.
