Historical site, I read island of the blue dolphins as a kid and was neat to see where Juana Maria was buried. I felt the exhibits were geared more to children than a historical perspective that adults could relate to. Great gift shop. I felt that guests were not respectful to others and the exhibits and were treating the mosoleum and exhibits like a dining hall not a library.

You have to give a church five stars or you will be cursed; however, I would give Santa Barbara Mission six stars if I could. We've visited other California, Texas, Arizona, and even Mexico missions and by far Santa Barbara was the best kept with great displays and information. We could have spent hours, but our 90 minutes provided a great overview. Keep up the good work.

Too small for the price lol
The garden seems to be abandoned, need works to make it look prettier. Inside the mission there is a small room talking about the Nicolas Island, one room about the indigenous people, one room that was the kitchen, two or three rooms with religious pictures, and 2 rooms as gift shop (fair prices in the gift shop). I would prefer San Juan Capistrano Mission. There was no access to the church or cemetery.

We couldn’t resist stopping by the Old Mission Santa Barbara, the iconic building featured in the intro of the beloved Santa Barbara series. As fans of the show growing up in Russia, my wife and I felt a thrill standing before this historic site. Just seeing the mission’s beautiful exterior brought back memories of the series’ opening scenes and the drama that kept us glued to the screen. As Mason Capwell once said, ‘Sometimes the past is like a shadow. It follows you wherever you go.’ Being here felt like reconnecting with those memories.

Such a lovely visit to this mission. Children and I just loved the history and the architecture is beautiful. And a nice place to stop when exploring Santa Barbara. Beautiful first impressions.

Cool place to visit. Self-guided your was informative - I had trouble connecting to the WiFi and my cell signal didn't always connect to the Internet so the audio tour didn't always connect, but that wasn't too big a deal.

Admission was $17. Spent about 45 minutes in total, though if you aren't quite as interested in history this may go faster for you.

I've been to maybe 6 missions down the PCH and this is definitely the biggest. They had more information and historical artifacts to check out. I loved the cemetery.

~ Traveling abroad has rejuvenated my inspiration for seeking the beauty of my own region 🌟
We took a short drive up the coast to this old mission #santabarbara for a #daytrip 🚗 it was only like a 2hr -> 2 1/2hr drive from Long Beach, CA.
The mission itself is pleasant to look at.

Overall, it was a calm, peaceful day. We spent a little more time on the pier and walking along the beach front. Love that coastal fog! We also snagged up some local chocolate that was delicious for the trip back down the coast.

~There was a wedding ceremony going on. Parts of the complex were closed and then open to the public for certain windows of time. Recommend checking in advance if coming from far.

I'm glad they preserve a part of history here, even if they sugarcoat some details.
