When I first entered Oakmont of Brookside, I immediately felt like I had come home. The community is so cheerful with warm welcoming staff. Meals are deliciously prepared by a chef and served in the dining room. The care staff, nurse, and executive director are all so kind and helpful. I couldn't ask for a better place to call home!

The rooms are nice, The common areas are beautiful. The activities are fun, and the staff encourage the residents to participate in them. The staff has given my dad a few responsibilities which give him a purpose in life and so much joy. The meals are very good. The staff are responsive to my dad and to me. Awesome daily activities within the communty and outdoor functions to museums, parks, restaurants, wineries, scenic drives, special holiday events and many more. Highly recommend. I am very pleased with the care my 91 year old mother is receiving at Oakmont of Brookside. She is continually checked on, has lots of in-house activities to keep her busy, as well as on-the-road excursions. She enjoys the friendliness and professionalism of the staff and has a good number of other residents who are her new friends.

The children in our family call the elders in our family “the great-greats”. And one of our “great greats” has been living at Oakmont for more than eight years. At one point in time, we had three of our “great-greats” living in assisted living apartments there. It was wonderful to be able to visit them all at once and the staff got to know each of them very well. The staff has always been warm and welcoming - working to accommodate the various requests of so many family members coming to visit.

They have arranged birthday parties (from colorful decorations, to delicious buffet meals for our extended family), cooking parties (we brought the ingredients to create an old family favorite with our “great-great”) and they provided the space and refreshments for the work party, and during Covid they organized a drive-by car parade so that we could wave and share shout outs with our loved one.

Last year we moved our “great-great” into Traditions, Oakmont’s Memory Care facility. The same warm and compassionate care that our “great-great” experienced all those years in assisted living followed suit in memory care. Oakmont has a knack for choosing warm and knowledgeable staff who are willing to help in any way they can. But this is not an accident; I think it is a direct reflection of the warmth and competent oversight of their director, Patricia Holguin. She has shown a genuine concern for the well-being of the residents who call Oakmont home and she leads her staff to demonstrate this same commitment in their daily interactions with residents.

The memory care unit has an additional layer of challenges and requires a special understanding of the needs of the residents in their care. I have learned a great deal from observing the way in which Nadya Rosales, the Director of Memory Care, and her staff interact with the memory care residents. They artfully provide activities, gentle guidance, and thoughtful distractions to support a positive environment for those in their care on a daily basis. There are many staff members that deserve recognition for their numerous acts of kindness in the service of our “great-great”. I wish I could name them all here, but I hope they all know that they do very important work and are tremendously appreciated.

When selecting a facility for the placement of our “great-great”, we didn’t understand that we would also be choosing a facility that could support us in coping with the challenges and complex emotions that accompany life’s transitions. We lucked out - Oakmont surpassed our expectations and we are forever grateful!
