I just spoke with a lady about fostering and she was so unkind and rude and told me to foster somewhere else instead of being customer service oriented and assisting as I was reaching out inquiring to help. She also cut me off every word as I spoke and active listening was not a strong suit. I hope they have better workers who replace her because this was so disheartening on how a shelter employees treats others. Something is very wrong with her mentally and it was off putting even if I was interested in fostering or adoption. I should’nt have even treated this way

I love my dog I got to adopt here. But stay clear of Valerie. Has extremely rude and mean customer service. Not sure what the sour attitude is continuously about.

I just would like to thank Julie for making my experience adopting my family’s first dog. Answered all are questions. Shared her own experience as a pet mom. Thank for your patience with us. Thank you for introducing us to Maggie! Thank you Valerie for the opportunity to come to Newport Animal Shelter from the city of Tustin. Hope you enjoy the photo of our Maggie.

Newport Beach animal shelter is a small facility but you can be sure all the animals inside are very well taking care of by the wonderful stuff of people who run the shelter and by their volunteers. Everyone there is devoted to the well being of every creature while waiting to be adopted. The Animal Control Officers are very knowledgeable, friendly and always very helpful. You can tell they all have a great passion for what they are doing. These people work very hard every day to ensure that all the animals have ton of love and attention at all time. Future pets at this shelter have plenty of interaction, socialization and with supervision plenty of freedom to stretch, run and play with their own kind. A place to visit for sure. I highly recommend this shelter if you are thinking of adopting a dog or a cat.

Valerie is so sweet. She patiently guided me through the meeting with the dog and the application process. She even gave me a bag of dog food that my dog was eating so that I can have a smooth diet change for my dog. The adoption fee is very affordable and includes everything you need for your dog (microchip, all vaccines, 1 month of tick and flea prevention, and free vet exam at Mariners Mile Vet Clinic). Thank you so much and God bless!

Our family found ourselves in the very difficult position of having to surrender our pets, a position we never thought we would be in. Newport Beach Animal Shelter helped us when others only gave us false hope. Valerie and her staff were compassionate and kind in one of the most difficult and emotional times we have ever experienced. Being Newport Beach residents, it warmed our hearts that a wonderful organization within our community was able to help us in our time of need. We often think of our babies but we are confident they are in capable and caring hands at NBAS.

I called in regards to asking about taking stray cats and kittens and the lady was so disrespectful after asking if they take stray cats and she said “no place is going to take stray cats you need to know that”. I was also trying to ask nicely for resources and she refused to give me the resources that will accept stray cats. I was upset the way she spoke to me and I asked to speak to the manager and the manager was not helpful at all and told me rudely also that if they don’t take stray cats, they don’t take stray cats. The staff including the manager both were unprofessional. The manager needs to train her staff to act more professional with dealing with customer service.

I recently found a lost cat in my neighborhood and notified the NB animal shelter by phone. I was told they could not take the cat due to the fact it had a collar on and may be someone's pet. I wasn't planning on bringing it there anyway, I just wanted to report in case the owner inquired. She told me that they don't use a computer system they have a written log and took my info regarding the Tabby cat. Luckily, this morning I was able to reunite lost Tabby with its owner and the assistance of Next-door. The owner told me she contacted the NB shelter and was told there were no cats brought in but neglected to tell her about my phone call. Totally could have been reunited sooner. They could have checked their log and spared us a lot of anguish. Definitely a "training" opportunity.
