NHS offers the Greenline program which is a grant up to $35k for down payment and closing costs assistance for first time home buyers. I took the required class to start the process for the program before I had a home in mind. After I took the class, I got a certificate of completion and instructions to send documents to my assigned counselor which I did within days. I didnā€™t hear back from the counselor until I sent an email to her a few weeks later notifying her that I had found a home and would most likely go into escrow soon. From there, it became weekly emails and calls (I wasnā€™t able to leave a message because the counselorā€™s voicemail was full) on my part to get in touch with her to move the process along. Sheā€™d call or email sporadically with instructions to send documents and schedule a follow up call only to not hear from her again for days or over a week despite multiple follow ups. Considering I was in escrow, this was unacceptable given the time constraints. It only got slightly better after I scheduled an appointment through NHS (not with the counselor directly). When it was time for the appointment, I realized the link provided for the call didnā€™t work so I called the office where I was put on hold for quite a while, transferred to the counselor, finally, only for her to not answer twice. She did call back but that plus the fact that it was two weeks before closing and the lack of progress in the process thus far made me lack any confidence that I would be able to utilize the Greenline program. My lender was great in that they were quick to respond to requests but there just wasnā€™t enough time to get myself and my lender approved, go into underwriting with NHS and back into underwriting with my lender, and whatever else needed to actually get funding. When I did the first time home buyer class, I was surprised to learn they had something like 30 slots left for the program considering itā€™s a grant but I think I understand why now. Even if you start the process before you go into escrow and are eligible for the program, thereā€™s a good chance theyā€™ll move so slow you wonā€™t actually get funding in time to close if my experience was any indication. You could potentially miss out on multiple homes if you were adamant on using the grant to help with your purchase. They donā€™t talk enough about the actual process to get the grant in their marketing materials or the class you have to take to be eligible for the grant so you really donā€™t know what to expect outside of the initial eligibility requirements. Even asking ā€œWhat are the next steps?ā€ yielded very little information. You canā€™t schedule a call with the NHS unless you have a pre-approval letter or purchase agreement both indications that youā€™re further along in the home buying process and may not have a bunch of time. When you do get in touch with a counselor, thereā€™s very little communication or follow up, so much so that it feels like an intentional stalemate. I looked forward to possibly volunteering with NHS in a marketing, grant writing/fundraising, or operations capacity since thatā€™s what Iā€™ve done for most of my career at nonprofits but this experience has really soured that. If my experience is the norm, itā€™s really unfortunate that members of the community have to deal with such a frustrating process with NHS in addition to the stress of purchasing their first home.

I saw a bag that I wanted on their site but was hesitant to order because I couldn't get anyone on the phone. This place is about 20 miles from my house, so I decided to drive there and check it out for myself, and they are a legit business. The business is located off Wilshire, and for anyone who knows LA it can get a little sketchy, but once you go into the store, you will be surprised by really good deals and friendly service. They also had many items with FedEx labels on them to be shipped, so those who cannot physically go to the store should buy with confidence. To the business owner, I will be stopping by again real soon to take you up on your offer. Thank you for the great deal today.

I applied in February, I never received a proper answer. I never passed the "we have several applications before you" excuse. I had somebody come to my house in April and gave me a bogus quote to remodel the house. Luckily I was looking for options to upgrade my house, but what about people that actually depend on the help. Not everything that shines is gold...

Neighborhood Housing Services is a one-stop shop, especially for first-time homebuyers. They have a very knowledgeable staff on the home buying process. As first-time homebuyers, we were clueless about what to do, and NHS has provided us with utmost guidance throughout the home buying process. Waiting was of course a big factor in the whole process, and definitely worth the wait and stress.
Moieshai Carter our Lending Specialist was very patient and nice. We couldn't have gotten approval from the lender if not with her help. Her positive attitude is above and beyond! Everyone whom we have dealt with in NHS was very friendly and accommodating. I would certainly recommend NHS to all my friends who are interested to be homeowners as well.

They serve food right across the street for the disadvantaged so you'd think this place would serve that community. Instead they act like they're exclusive and appointment only. Ask for a referral and their colleagues phone aren't even in service. Cdc west angeles.
