Strict rules and environment, but it worked for me.

In 2013, I was living in my truck and eating leftovers from fast food garbage cans. This facility got me into a stable environment, helped me get back into school, obtain VA disability benefits, and move forward with my life. Seven years later, I’m a college graduate with a good job. I went from homeless to homeowner & I can’t imagine where I would have been without this place as a safety net.

Yes, it is a mean-spirited flophouse. I was there 7 miserable months on the cheapest mattress that got replaced and felt just as bad. No place to put my things. Not enough plug-ins for phones. My husband was there and I got permission to come too but when I got there I was told there could be "no hugging or kissing including OUTSIDE the facility." When I balked it was basically, well, you can leave if you don't want to follow this. So I had left the VA facility I was at and I would be homeless with no money to go back. They kept us tethered to the facility with worthless "classes" but unqualified people except one real counselor. We had chores including working in an industrial kitchen which they changed all the time and most of the vets are older and if you miss something you get more chores. I had 3 case managers during that time because veterans will take the job and leave because, as one told me, "they won't let me help the vets. It's all paperwork." Conflict of interest at the kitchen manager was the tenant of the director (Heather). We had a bedbug infestation twice. They get 1/3 of any income which for some was $500 a month for a bunk bed with one room holding well over 10 veterans. They tried to squeeze in more but a VA inspector wouldn't let them. It's all about the money. Disgusting.

This place is a dead end for homeless veterans. It's filled with fleas and bed bugs and the staff is only interested in one thing: your per diem. I wasted 3 months in the program and ended up not getting housing because I made too much for the hostile HUD VASH bean counters. I can't believe the VA WASTES money on this program.

Since its opening in 2011(?), approximately 10 years ago, the place has turned into a "sithole". Cant tell you how many of vets, whom i know like bros, have been done dirty by that corporation. 10 or 15 i know. On intention, they get a 5, performance, a 1. I dont recommend to any veteran.

The staff are interested and unfailingly kind. They expect the adults living there to behave as such, and treat them accordingly, given the context. 38 men & 4 women veterans have food, shelter and support when they need it most.

It took two phone calls to have anyone return my call. They have a “CANT DO” culture instead of trying and just working FITB the veterans .i have two dogs and immediately she said she couldn’t help. Pointless to have a program that’s not willing to try.
