To be clear, this is a review of the studio we rented: this is a cute little studio room, with a kitchenette and a gorgeous location with a quick walk to the headlands and close to the amazing town of Mendocino. We ran out of TP and we had no one to reach out to. We received a number, but only to contact in an emergency. It is also very easy to hear the people in the neighboring studios, but that is going to be the case with most hotels in this lil’ Mendocino town! Overall, would stay again!

This review is only for the accommodation. I’ve never had such a frustrating experience dealing with a hotel. I requested to cancel the room a week before the trip. They rejected the request so I kept the reservation and decided to stay. However, while they rejected my request, they charged me for the room, and double booked the room for the same dates for another guest. Sent them many messages, called, and no replies. I had to find a last min place to stay and they still don’t refund me. Avoid at all cost.

Comfortable and casual art gallery. No pressure. I did leave a modest donation. The artists that created this center revitalized the village of Mendocino after the lumber industry left.

The art center is a main stay of the Mendocino community. Walk from the Main Street a few blocks and you’re in art heaven. We got a wonderful tour from one of the kind and knowledgeable artists in residence. There ceramics department does classes on all different firing techniques including raku, soda, and wood firings. Will definitely be back for some classes.

I started my experience at the art center with small talk at Moody’s organic coffee with an artist in residence, Karina Mago. I really felt a desire to see her work, and then the art center had an event that I couldn’t miss. I saw Karina immediately and as fast fell in love with her work, her intricate exploration of clay structure, form and surface.
Somehow, a spark of my own stirred me to take Vince Petelka’s handbuilding workshop and I was hooked. The Art Center is a well organized and well lighted place. Ian Hazard has the studio so well organized and maintains excellent communication and is a plethora of information about clay, tools, artists, schools, firing types, glazes and business. I’m not patronizing; he really is a hero.
The selection of artists in residence is also sensational. I want to throw Kudos to Austyn Taylor, Myung Ahn, and Lauren Stanford.
Now I rent a shelf and I’m bringing Star Dog into the world of ceramics. Star Dog was created in 1979, but was stuck into a 2D world until Mendocino Art Center 2019!!

Always a lot of great art. Lots of workshops where you can learn anything from ceramics, jewery making, painting etc. I am disappointed that you need proof of vacc. to take the workshops now as you can still get/ transmit even with it!
