I just visited the Cullman Branch in AL. I have donated with LifeSouth for over 15 years. Also partnering with them at my place of work for multiple blood drives over the years. The last two times my blood pressure (BP) was too high and I was unable to safely donate. I accepted this because I was overweight and my weight has always directly correlated with my BP. I have lost 67 lbs and my doctor took me off BP medication, but have I extreme white coats where I get anxiety when my BP is taken or even when I think of the test itself. I have always been able to take a bit of time to calm my anxiety and donate after breathing exercises. (For example: My dentist is not able to complete an appointment for a filling when my BP is too high, but he gives me 15 mins alone and retakes it and it drops to well within safe levels.) I tried to explain this anxiety issue with the two members of the staff and they acted like they knew my body better than I did.

I currently live in TN and came to visit family and thought it would be nice to stop by and donate. The Branch was open until 12 today and I arrived around 10:15, and was the only donor in the branch. Although I explained why my BP was high and that if they would retake it, it would get better. I told them that I just needed about 15 mins. They retook it after 1.5 mins and then again 4 mins later, not giving me any time to calm down and it was not any better. (Of course not when they announce that they are going to give me five mins and come back in less than two and then again in less than 5. Idk if the staff was in a rush or didn't want to be there, but I would be interested to know why they were in such a rush to push me out of the door when they had hours before closing and only one other donor at the time of my departure.

I am not one to post negative reviews, but this experience really was not my typical experience with LifeSouth and I feel their corporate office should know. Perhaps if I am back in the area I will try to donate again, but if it happens like this again, I will not return.

I stopped at the bloodmobile on Sunday 2/28/24. I'm not sure why they had me giving the blood so fast. I filled it up in 7 minutes. The guy unhooked everything, and the girl clean an bandaged my arm. After she finished bandaging my arm, she told me I was good to go. As I stepped off the bus and heading into Walmart, I begin to feel very sick and lightheaded. I then decided to just go to my car. I was trying to find my keys in my purse, and leaned up against the bars that held the buggies where people return them. Next thing I know, people were standing all around me. I had blacked out. I ask the sweet lady that was there by my side to help me get to my car, but blacked out again. They had called 911 and my BP had dropped to 90/sixty something. After I did finally get up and walked to my car ( with help from 911 ) I then realized my ankle, left arm and left hip hurt. They never kept me there ( on the bus ) to make sure I was going to be fine, or never offered anything to eat or drink after giving. I felt horrible the rest of the day, and even missed work the next day. I had X-ray done on my ankle, d/t swelling. I have a very bad sprain. That trip ended up costing me a lot d/t their negligence. I will NEVER!!! Give blood for Lifesouth again!!!

Misty and Heather do a great job in making you feel appreciated and taken care of. I hope people will be encouraged to donate blood and/or plasma-platlets. It's so needed right now and doesn't take a lot of time to donate. In some way I think just about everyone has had some experience with someone going through cancer. Giving a small amount of your time can help someone going through so much.
