I have been wanting to do Ayahuasca for over 10 years and always knew that it would find me at the right place, during the right time, with the right people. I believe that with this kind of medicine (sacred plant medicines) the invitation can be just as important as the call and one should always do their due diligence when it comes to researching and finding the right shaman to work with.
Hummingbird Church is composed of a team of absolute angels. I had the pleasure of working with them a month ago for the first time and was invited out to teach Kundalini Yoga and Art for their ceremony held at Sharanam Sanctuary in Southern Oregon. To my surprise, in addition to getting hired to teach, I was offered the opportunity to sit with the medicine for the first time. I immediately felt connected to, Courtney, their lead coordinator and I really appreciate the fact that they work with a true Indigenous Columbian Shaman who was taught by his grandfather for 7 years before stepping into his full role as Taita. Now having served for over 20 years, Taita Pedro Davila really knows how to hold space for everyone-no matter where you are on your journey and has a great sense of humor which I find necessary in spiritual healing. In fact, the whole team of facilitators have not only a great sense of humor but they also really know how to hold space with authenticity and respect. I feel so lucky to have my path weaved with all of these wonderful people (the team and all of the attendees included) and I will truly cherish this experience for the rest of my life.
Grandmother Ayahuasca truly knows what we need most and I recommend anyone who feels the call, to arrive with curiosity and a willingness to surrender to the process. She will lead you to where you need to be. Trust in that!
Thank you so much everyone at Hummingbird church for creating a safe container for all of us to be vulnerable, release what no longer serves us and remind us that love is the strongest medicine.
Special thank you to The White Light Collective for putting in a good word for me too. Everything came together so perfectly and I am so grateful to be a part of this sacred medicine family.
I look forward to reconnecting with all of you very soon!
Warmest regards,
Mystic

When I decided to try this medicine I searched for a safe and supportive group to sit with for over seven years. I was not in a position to leave the country and didn’t want to sit with “shamans” who got a 6 week online certificate and were serving medicine in their garage with a Spotify playlist. So when I saw the hummingbird church pop up on my explore page on IG and saw they were having a retreat 2 hours away from LA I was intrigued. I was happy to see they that had a through intake form, were very responsive to my questions…and I had many, and they had rules and protocols in place that I found extremely responsible and loving. I attended my first retreat which was incredibly safe, loving, healing, empowering and overall magical. The. I attended a second one which was just as amazing. TIL this day I’m filled with gratitude for this church, community and all they do for humanity. From the organizers, Taita Pedro, and the amazing musicians, to the breathwork facilitators, massage therapists, chefs and sound healers…this community is filled with the most genuine, honest, loving people I’ve ever met. I consider them family and am beyond grateful for every person I’ve met and every experience I’ve shared within this community. This is a beautiful but difficult medicine to work with. Safety and support are imperative when working with this magical plant and Hummingbird Church goes above and beyond to ensure the participants safety and comfort with loving support and compassion.
Thank you!!✨ Hummingbird Church for creating such a safe and beautiful space to help humanity heal.
LA Woman
My name is Norma, and just before the plandemic, I became deeply interested in exploring alternative ways to heal a lifetime of trauma. At the time, I was battling three autoimmune conditions and had reached the end of my rope. Then, I came across Michael Pollan’s series "How to Change Your Mind," and something in my spirit pulled me to explore further.
Living in California, I’ve learned to be cautious of the spiritual scene here. I’ve encountered unreliable individuals, self-proclaimed shamans, and had some tough experiences that taught me the importance of doing my research. This led me to join a Facebook group, where I came across an article addressing the colonization happening within plant medicine retreats. It answered many of my questions and opened my eyes to some of the issues in the space.
After being drained of my life savings by "holistic" doctors in Southern California—where it seems doctors assume everyone has Kardashian-level wealth—and seeing my work suffer a massive hit during the plandemic, I couldn’t afford the high prices of plant medicine retreats, either in California or South America. I started to question how much of that money even goes back to the tribes or the medicine itself.
Desperate for genuine help, I googled the journalist from the article I had read and found an interview where their email was listed. I reached out, and to my surprise, the journalist forwarded my email to Hummingbird Church. The very next day, Courtney contacted me and offered me a retreat.
So far, I’ve attended three retreats with Hummingbird Church, and all were life-changing. Let me be clear—this isn’t for the faint of heart or anyone unwilling to face their whole self, shadow and light. This isn’t shallow spirituality. The process is deep, challenging at times, but also profoundly liberating. Most importantly, you are fully supported, and you are SAFE.
Hummingbird conducts a thorough health questionnaire to ensure it’s safe for you to take the medicine. The price is incredibly reasonable, especially considering it includes accommodations, meals, and three full days of transformative experiences. They offer modalities like breath work, massage, and more, alongside the ceremonies. And the food? Absolutely amazing.
The music is on another level—beyond superb. It becomes a guiding force, helping you navigate the emotional waves that break down the walls around your heart and melt them away. Music is the most powerful tool, and I’m not exaggerating.
The facilitators create a judgment-free space, which is one of the main reasons I keep returning. This isn’t a one-time fix or a magical solution. We are the solution, the "silver bullet," and these retreats remind you of that truth.
Taita Pedro, the shaman, shares simple yet revolutionary wisdom. He is genuine—nothing like the self-proclaimed shamans I’ve encountered before. He is grounded in the human experience and even connected with my Argentine culture, going as far as referring me to someone he trained in Argentina for my niece to visit.
Integration is vital after these experiences, and Hummingbird supports this as well. They offer a free post-retreat Zoom call with their integration coach, Michael V., who provides practical and insightful guidance on how to navigate the “now what” after ceremony.
You won’t find a more reliable and caring group of people. I truly need a new word for "grateful." If you’re ready for a shift and willing to go deep, I can’t recommend a better or safer group.
Hummingbird Church was my saving grace. After 22 years in religion, it was this group that extended a helping hand when I needed it most—no strings attached. They also care about building community, offering free gatherings and groups on an ongoing basis.
These people were my angels in disguise, and for them, I am endlessly grateful.
Jason Andersen
My name is Jason Andersen,
I went on my first ayahuasca retreat during Memorial Day weekend, and I was left speechless. The only words I could say to describe the experience was “So, so, so beautiful”
In certain ways, I had never been more terrified and miserable. For me, there was an element of death that came over me while under the medicine. Although I knew that my body was safe, I felt like surrendering to the tremendous energy flowing through me. This “energy” was strong and attractive, and yet, I needed to let go (of my ego?), and once I did… unbelievable beauty. Everywhere I looked, both inward and outward, myself, others, the world, everything is just so so beautiful.
The shaman and the facilitators were amazing and world class. There was no preaching or lessons about religion, philosophy, or metaphysics. The environment that was created fostered the perfect atmosphere for anybody, at any point in their spiritual/psychological development to see for themselves the deep insights hidden within us all. Amazing.
The housing and bed situation is not all that great, now that I think about it, but that is all quickly forgotten after you see what the ayahuasca is doing for you.
By the end of the weekend, the collective energy was so positive I could not believe it. I have never been around so many people who were so full of love and light. The smiles were genuine and I can see the muscles relaxed in peoples faces as if for the first time in decades.
I agree, Ayahuasca saves lives.

I have been seeking AYA for over 10 years and it wasn’t the right time, then stumbled across Hummingbird church and so glad this was my first experience with the medicine. The whole crew was very attentive and caring, made sure we were safe and comfortable, absolutely love the shaman we sat with as well. I couldn’t ask for a better place to sit with the medicine. ✨

I cannot say enough about hummingbird church. I had been feeling called to sit with the medicine for several years when I heard of Taita Pedro and Hummingbird Church. I have sat with the medicine twice both times with Hummingbird church. My life and my heart have opened in ways I never imagined possible. I am beyond grateful for the safe space that they create and all the facilitators who enabled me to be safe while on the medicine.

I have been to four of hummingbird’s retreats, and they have all been INCREDIBLE experiences. I have benefited in so many ways, from the ten ceremonies that I have been a part of. Courtney, Brian, and the entire hummingbird team are absolutely amazing. I 100% plan I going on another retreat, and I could not even imagine doing it without the amazing Taita Pedro, and Hummingbird church.
Terry Porter
Hummingbird church is a safe place. I honestly love the amazing emails and communicating with the staff is super friendly and graceful. I’m very much looking forward to sitting with them at a retreat in the near future
