It's a poorly maintained property which has has little or no investment. Not enough toilets and showers for amount of persons staying. It is badly laid out with main office space huge with mostly no access. Cleanliness is an issue look out for the yellow chair that is filthy. See if pigeon point has vacancies first before you book here

Nestled along California's picturesque coastline, Montara Lighthouse is more than a navigational aidโ€”a unique learning environment where the classroom expands into the natural world. Our trips there are crafted to enhance our educational journey, weaving together environmental science with physical activities and personal responsibility. One of the most exciting parts of these excursions is tide-pooling. As we scramble over slippery rocks and peer into the watery pockets left by the receding tide, we encounter a variety of marine organisms. From sea stars and anemones to crabs and tiny fish, each tide pool provides a window into the California coast's complex and often fragile ecosystems. The educational benefits of this activity are vast. We learn about biodiversity, adaptation, and the ecological roles of different species. Moreover, tide-pooling sparks a sense of wonder and curiosity about marine biology and emphasizes the importance of conserving marine environments. Kayaking offers another enriching experience. Paddling along the coast, we feel the ocean's vastness and power from a unique perspective. This activity challenges us physically and mentally, promotes teamwork and building endurance, and provides a peaceful yet exhilarating opportunity to connect with the marine environment. It fosters a deep appreciation for natural beauty and the thrill of exploration. While these activities highlight the educational and recreational aspects of the trips, they also include challenges that contribute to our personal growth. One such challenge is the requirement to cook our meals. This task teaches us valuable life skills such as self-reliance, time management, and the basics of cooking. However, it can also be a source of discomfort for those unfamiliar with cooking, especially in a camp-like setting where resources are limited. The impact of these trips extends beyond the immediate experiences of tide-pooling or kayaking. They play a significant role in building community among us. Working together in unfamiliar environments fosters a sense of camaraderie and mutual support. Furthermore, overcoming the challenges associated with outdoor activities and self-cooking can boost our confidence and encourage us to step out of our comfort zones. The trips to Montara Lighthouse as part of our educational outings offer a rich tapestry of experiences that contribute significantly to our personal and academic development.

We spent two nights at Point Montara Lighthouse hostel this week. It was incredible. We booked a room with four beds (a double and bunks) for the three of us. The room was perfect with comfortable bedding and the beds were already made up. We were in Surfside and were extremely fortunate to have it to ourselves on the first night. The kitchen is perfect, with incredible views. The lounge area was comfortable. It felt like being in someoneโ€™s home! Lovely little touches such as the fresh flowers and reed diffusers added to the ambiance.
The managers were helpful and informative but completely unobtrusive once we were given keys.
The main draw however is the location. Incredible views, a gorgeous sandy, private beach, the working lighthouse (with a fascinating history) and an amazing seating area. Pelicans, cormorants and other seabirds can be seen flying overhead and we saw a seal several times as well as a large buzzard. The peace and tranquillity was tangible. We did not want to leave. We are already planning a California coastal hostel trip and shall definitely return. Thank you.

This is one of the most beautiful settings I have ever experienced in my life. The pictures were very appealing, but when you arrive and see it in real life, you will realize how breathtaking this place is. The staff was wonderful, the kitchen was fully equipped and amenities such as WIFI and other goodies were great.

There was plenty of parking, and the location is only about 15 minutes from Half Moon Bay restaurants, bars, shops and Half Moon Bay State Beach and trails. The rooms were small but very clean, the beds were comfortable and the showers were always hot.

The views. The views are what make this place a small piece of Heaven. I watched the most beautiful sunset over the ocean right off the cliffs listening to the waves crashing upon the rocks below. At night, we lit the bonfire and drank beers and told jokes and stories while listening to the sounds of the ocean. In the morning, I enjoyed watching the whales, dolphins, birds and sea lions while drinking coffee and be at total peace and serenity.

I cannot say enough how beautiful this setting is. I will definitely be back regularly at least once a year to enjoy the peace and calm this hostel provides. Highly recommended.

We really enjoyed the stunning views from the hostel and welcoming hostel staff. Posted info on local tides and live music is handy, and the staff are very helpful with additional information about area options. The kitchen is well equipped (with the affordable espresso bar being a bonus!) and the lounge area comfortable. The grounds, with parking, picnic tables, and a smoking area, are open to all during the day. A charming, small, sandy beach is just down the cliff, via an easy path.||We stayed in one of the private rooms: tiny but comfortable and lovely!||The hostel has an impressive commitment to international friendship and peace, as well as environmental sustainability (featuring recycling and composting in the kitchen).

A lovely location for an overnight stay. Would have loved to stay longer. We stayed in a private double room with shared bathroom. Very comfortable bed. Stunning view from our room out a big window. Loved the history and the charm of the lighthouse in the fog. Great value. Shared kitchen / living room facilities looked excellent. We ate dinner at Half Moon brewery in town and breakfast at SoulGrind in Pacifica, both were excellent. Bathroom/floors could have been cleaner, but overall a great stay with friendly staff.

Stayed here a while ago, and really enjoyed it. The whole environment of the hostel is quiet, calm, and peaceful. The views were great. Really appreciated the attention to making everything eco-friendly, such as the good bike accommodations, communal refrigerator, and refillable bottles of soap in shower. Staying so close to other people did not take away from the experience, but instead gave more opportunities for interaction and conversation. Great place!
