Waited on phone for 1/2 hour (was told it would be 1/2 hr wait) she asked for mom’s social security number. I had gone thru mom’s purse and gave her the number on SS card (the one with the letters and numbers). She said she needed her social security number. Told her this was on the social security card and that she had died so I could not go and ask her. She said it would be on the death cert . Mom just died on Saturday and I would not get a death cert for about a month. She said funeral home would have it. Told her no funeral home (cremation). Why did they give out the crazy social security cards if you can’t use them with the social security office. She said to call back when I received the ss #. Told her I would not be calling them back. One 1/2 hr wait was enough.

This is for the woman by the entrance. You are an embarrassment for the social security costumer service in fort Myers . I
Always tell people from Miami that here we have a really good customer service until I went to the social security office on Wednesday Sept 4th. So you know who you are, you need another job that maybe will make you happy.
On Tuesday I called to ask if I need it an appointment for a name change and the answer was no . They emailed me a SS-5 form to fill up and take it to the office … after having time off work to go I was turn away without even giving an explanation she said that the guy that send me the form didn’t know what he was doing. When I tried to talk she would talk and wouldn’t let me finish what I had to say. I hope you guys can find someone that at least is happy on the inside .

Today, I had an unpleasant encounter with Miss Pineda while accompanying my 75-year-old father, a U.S. citizen, to inquire about his Medicare and Medicaid status. When I asked whether his coverage was active, Miss Pineda abruptly responded that we were in the wrong building and that our inquiry had nothing to do with their office. She directed us to contact Family Services, though I found this confusing as I was not inquiring about government assistance. Her tone and attitude were dismissive, and she told us not to ask any more questions, which left me feeling embarrassed in front of others present.

I maintained a respectful demeanor throughout the interaction, as did my father and decided not to call a supervisor. However, I chose not to pursue the matter at that time, hoping to resolve the situation without further conflict.

Eventually, Miss Pineda reluctantly allowed us to obtain a ticket and wait our turn, though the process felt unnecessarily difficult. At one point, she raised her voice and accused me of staring at her, though I was simply lost in thought about the tasks I had scheduled for the day. When I explained this to her, she continued to exhibit a condescending attitude, dismissing my concerns and undermining the quality of customer service.

The mission coming here was to have my wife's last name changed. That's it.

Tried to setup an appointment online or in person...not possible. So we are forced to come and wait in the "non-appointment" line.

Came here once in the afternoon and there was a line outside the door in the blazing hot sun with no coverage. Was told it was about an hour wait. Decided to come back on a different day. My fault for coming in the middle of the day.

Today was the 2nd day. Got here 30 minutes after the place opened (930a.m.), and there was already a line out the door, and "60 min wait" was already written on the board outside. Little to no coverage from the sun is provided outside on the sidewalk. I'm from Irish/Scottish/Polish descent, so when I say I'm pale white, I am PALE white. The sun is just baking that sidewalk and I felt I needed to rotate my body as I waited so I could burn evenly.

My wife sweats easily, so she was sweating through her clothes by the time we made it to the door. Entire families were out on the sidewalk waiting with us. They were letting people in 3 people at a time. It says on the sign that the person can be accompanied by 1 adult if there is assistance needed. I figured since my wife is having her last name changed to mine, there would need to be some sort of confirmation on my end, or at the very least if my wife had questions, I could be there to help. You know....a support system.

Also, in an era where fraud is prevalent in our society, you think my being there would provide an extra sense of security that some stranger wasn't changing her name to mine.

After waiting for 20 minutes outside on the sidewalk, we were finally at the door and the guard came out to let the next round in, and my wife said the appointment was for her. The lady looked at me and straight up denied me access. No explanation. No customer service. They just turned me away and proceeded with the next person in line.

I've had a better experience at the DMV.

Angie, this is for you! If I could leave negative stars I would! I’ll add to the rest of the negative reviews. I simply called to schedule an appointment for my elderly mother, and the woman on the phone was interrogating me wanting to know every detail why we needed the appointment and then made me repeat why we specifically needed the appointment. We have been getting nowhere over the phone for the past several months, so thought we may have better luck in person! She also needed MY social security number when the appointment is for my mother!? I only wanted to make a simple appointment, how difficult is it! Angie couldn’t have been more rude if she tried, maybe the wrong line of work?

Two calls by phone in last two weeks, got a very nice person each time, but what I asked to be done didn't happen after the first call, got a helpful person again today and the same request was processed, now I wait for five days to see if if works. Both nice, helpful, maybe its the computer system.

My appointment was at 11pm. I came in at 10:40 and checked in. I was called over and finished by 10:55am! I went in for a name change and Anthony was a great help. He was kind and courteous and answered the questions that I had. I was nervous to go in because it was packed with people! But I'm glad I made an appointment because it certainly expedited the process. Bring in all your paperwork already filled out and signed and you will be out of there in no time at all!
