This lady Ellen who runs this place for some sort of summer art camp is extremely rude and cannot be trusted to keep these kids safe. This place is attached to a popular park for dogs (Archer Park) and she will just release the kids there, claiming that the dogs should have been on the leash in the first place. She's right about the law, but releasing the kids into the park without checking and making sure that all the dog owners had a chance to leash their dogs, goes against common sense. It's almost as though she's wanting something bad to happen. She also threatened to call the cops on the people at the park, claiming the kids are going to play there. The kids did not want to play at Archer Park, it's just a big dirty field with nothing on it - because there is a separate fenced playground next to it which the children prefer. Releasing the children into a dirty field they don't even want to stay in, just seems like baiting for unsafe events to occur. Never mind the dogs, I would not want my children witness this lady's erratic behavior and poor social skills.

First Night is a great organization that does much for Monterey County. I have been involved in several of the art camps. Staff has been great to work with and does a great job with children who have different abilities and strengths. Highly recommend it.

If you have never been to a first night celebration you are in for a treat. First night used to be in Santa Cruz about 15 or more years ago. And held sporadically because of funding and security. I'm very happy to be sharing this event. It's going to be a sight to see. Thank you too all the hands that MAKE it possible.....HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!

Seconding that Ellen is rude and harried. I don’t know why people who don’t seem to like children very much take jobs working with them but she makes no one feel especially welcome. We won’t be retuning.
