I was a 'volt' (Volunteer) at this place for about six months. This 20+ acre location in Elephant Head is BEAUTIFUL!! (Which the owner/founder has been lucky to accommodate solely through this 'non-profit organization') The 'volts' keep the stables and property very-well clean! But do WASTE ALOT OF WATER!! There is no grooming or cleaning of any of the 50+ horses here. None of the horses are used for the therapeutic treatment or saddle and rideable! Horses are put into stables or large pins. They are 'over-feed' twice a day to look healthy. There is no 'vet' on-site or routinely check-ups... no book keeping or records of each horses! The staff (which has NO vet training) determines what and how much is giving to each horse. The staff is friendly and nice but could/need about three or four more! And yes, it's great to see/have a place that does rescue these horses... But who is really being 'rescued' The horses or the 'non-profit owner & staff' 🤔🤷🤦

Terrible owner/founder. Terrible management. Do not adopt a horse from these people unless you would like to be ruthlessly shamed and embarrassed by the founder/owner, as I have personally witnessed.

Completely unprofessional and even worse board of directors.

The healing this sanctuary provides to the horses in their care is truly inspiring. This non-profit is run with integrity and fiscal accountability in the forefront of everything they do. May we stop the abuse, slaughter and neglect of these sentient beings.

Loved spending some time with the animals and peace of this sanctuary. I went to volunteer some of my time, but really enjoyed the peace of the space.
While the focus is rescuing horses and other animals, my half day was spent at the labyrinth. First finding the pathways that had been swallowed by weeds, and then taking a walk on it myself.

Ranch tour this morning. Such a relaxed friendly atmosphere. The best part was being able to interact with the rescues. Our tour guide, Joie, had the best stories regarding these animals and a knowledge of their history. She knew each one by name. You could feel the admiration and respect these volunteers had for their charges.

Wonderful work there Karen & the team are doing, recognizing that we are connected to all, and self care extends to our partner species. Lower consciousness from big Pharma giving low reviews, I see.

I'd give 6 stars if I could. Melissa and Donna are phenomenal handlers, true caring professionals. Karen went above and beyond to be resourceful and proactive during the process of adopting my first horse. A truly memorable experience. I can't thank these people enough.
