I'm down here for the past four years for Gips juke joint festival & at sundown everyone goes over to Gips juke joint about a mile away! Sadly 99 year old Gip is in poor health and it will likely be closing down soon after 65 + years of playing the blues!

Piece of history. This building still has "Bessemer Colored High School" on the front of the building. In 2009 my grandmother, my aunt (her daughter), me, and my daughter (who was pregnant with my first Grandchild) voted for President Obama. My Grandmother attended that high school for 1 year when she was a girl. What an incredible turn of events. I'm good she lived to see that day.
