Comforting Hands? More like Greedy Hands and I would mot recommend them.
The staff seem nice but they are being done no favors under the current management. Our experience: my 95-year-old friend was referred by a Kaiser social worker to stay at “Comforting Hands” for two weeks upon his hospital release. With a 30% cut for the social worker, my friend was charged $4,500 for two weeks! (read: you should absolutely negotiate the price for a loved one in the same situation).
The administrator made my friend’s stay very uncomfortable because she was constantly fretting about getting paid. When I learned of this, I went there to help get things sorted. I gave her a check for $1,000 from my friend. She agreed to accepting another post-dated check for the remainder until my friend could get his funds sorted as soon as he was home again. However, She did not honor the agreement. Most unscrupulously, she changed the date on the check without consent (!) and cashed it 14 days early — causing my friend all sorts of problems. She would later argue she was owed this money for services rendered. Sure lady… but then don’t make verbal agreements you don’t intend to keep!

Comforting Hands Forever came highly recommended by my father’s hospice service when his needs became so great that we could no longer care for him in his home. We found them to be very warm and caring, and after calling around to several other similar organizations we found the cost to be quite reasonable. I’m puzzled by the one star review above and can only guess that everybody’s response to the stress of watching a loved one’s decline is different. Contrary to what the other poster wrote, I found their focus to not be on money, but on compassion and care and helping our family get through a very difficult time. So much so that they even turned down my offer to pay a per diem when my dad passed shortly after the beginning of a new month. If you’re in the unfortunate position of needing such services, I really can’t recommend these guys highly enough.
