As a Child, My brothers and I grew up across the street from Dickeys playground, We participated in every sports possible. Our coach name was Paul and Hank, Sometimes Henry, but when it came down to life changing field trips with other friends that are family 20 years later. Alphonso was the man who took care of all of us. I remember Alphonso, Paul, and Hank and Okland in an all white lowrider, walking, leading us to City Hall and remember watching Alphonso speak on behalf of the families and children. This was when we were 13 years of age something that stuck with me and also many friends of ours . It makes me so proud to have known all these Godly saints .
They took care of us all and even through the bad we helped the 93701 area is a mixture of many race and culture, but the Chicano imprint that Alphonso and his staff did there will forever be a historical land mark in my eyes . Thank you Evryone including rhe science center for taking us on fields trips to the beach zoo mountains snowboarding sixflag Santa Cruz. I really wish to do the same in my future and follow the steps that are necessary to achieve helping my community because our youth are important and the leaders of the chicano youth center undsrstood, that us fatherless children needed rolemodles to see a better future. I would be dead or indulged in gangs if it wasn't for what theses coaches did for us. Hands down something I will never forget and neither would my friends . Relationships are important and the staff there knew this, no matter what shape or color you were the doors were open. And they were available to sit and talk or play pool or ping-pong haha Alphonso was the champion at ping-pong.
