Editor of a residents' publication for 5 years. I hear hints & whispers that I shall be replaced January, 2025. However, no formal word of that has ever come from the Residents' Council Chair or anyone else who chairs any committee.

Living here maintains our independence but with the comforting knowledge that we already have made our most important end-of-life decisions. So we can just relax and enjoy this well-planned community, its smartly designed living units, its absolutely gorgeous location, and its nearly perfect weather. Don't believe anyone who tells you it's hard to make friends when you're older. That's not true at the Manor. As a resident during the last four years, I have become involved in more activities than I ever thought possible. I am neither a "joiner" nor a glutton for work, but the activities I've chosen here have given me opportunities to be creative and to "shine" in ways I thought I had left behind when I retired 24 years ago. Resident committees--and the activities under their jurisdictions--are the lifeblood of our CVM community; however much or little you participate and contribute, it is essential and always appreciated.

My wife and I moved into Carmel Valley Manor ten years ago and it was the best decision we could have made. We were relatively young, 67 and 72, but we decided that it was important for us to find a place where we could live for the rest of our life in a secure and active community. We were impressed with the beauty of Carmel Valley, the sunny weather and close proximity to all of the attractions of the Monterey Peninsula. What became more apparent after our move in was the amazing sense of community and love of life that fills our lives here.

The residents are active with a multitude of sports, games, special musical events, concerts, fascinating guest speakers, continuing education, painting, weaving, photography, plays, trips to local and bay area cultural events and many, many more. We are never bored and have made many friends which we cherish. We realize, that as we get older everything is in place for us to stay active and independent and when we need assistance it is always available.

Equally important, our children are happy that they don't have to worry about us, can visit and stay in the on site guest units and will never be burdened with the trauma of trying to find a place for us in the event of stroke, or other major disabling illness, We like the fact that all facilities, independent, assisted care and the Skilled Nursing Facilities are all co-located allowing spouses who may be recuperating from treatment to take meals and visit together without worrying about transportation to an off site facility.

I guess to sum it up. They seem to have thought about everything. Even the staff is like family, providing loving and attentive service every day. For us it's a great value and source of peace for our future. We are thankful every day that we decided to live here in a complete "Life Care Community" where our every need is provided for in all situations that may arise.

I moved in 11 months ago, during Covid restrictions and then the major renovation of our main building, including the dining room, began. In spite of these challenges, I was made to feel welcomed by both residents and staff. I have also had two hip replacements, and had a very positive experience with both the Health Center and with the Clinic. Love it here!

My parents have thrived at the Manor. I describe it as summer camp. Residents lead most of the activities, and I think that keeps them young. In my family‘s case, I am confident that added years to their productive lives. And not only that it is a very welcoming society. Both my parents, my sister and I, could not be happier for these wonderful years at the Manor.
