Adoption: Our hearts are broken from a mistake they made. What a tough loss. We were told many things that didn't pan out. We were even advised to take certain steps that actually cost us. At the end of the day they apologized but still honored the mistake, which caused us to lose the adoption. The adoption manager also said things that didn't happen - such as giving an exception to the group who booked after us (but snook in before us), even after what she told us was against the rule. They claim to honor the first-come first-serve rule, but they don't. We are incredibly disappointed about the entire unfair experience.

UPDATE: We appreciate Emily, the Executive Director a reaching out to us regarding our experience. However there are key parts that now not addressed.

We received a wonderful call from Darius who thoroughly helped us with questions and scheduled us for the soonest appointment possible to see Atlas. Because their policy is to not book simaltaneous appointments for staff availability, we requested the 12:30 appointment because another dog's appointment was at 12 noon. He suggested the 12:30 time and said we would be the first family to see Atlas. He also mentioned that (1) the Homeward Bound program may not be available to us, (2) he didn't yet have an appointment scheduled for his alteration, and (3) to ask the manager the next morning if an exception would be made, otherwise the surgery would be our expense.

We followed the advice and called the next morning to ask the manager about an exception with Homeward Bound, which was denied. We then said we would be happy to take Atlas and pay for his surgery, but they denied us saying that the surgery was already scheduled and that they couldn't cancel. Respectfully we accepted and trusted this decision. At the same time, we were told that a 12 noon appointment for Atlas was booked and that he may not be adoptable after all for our 12:30pm appointment. They mentioned that it was a mistakened booking and that was not allowed. I asked if that 12 noon appointment would be honored, and the manager said yes. She apologized and said that the other family was also not within the Butte County area and would not be able to get Atlas, so she advised we wait for his surgery to be done and check again at the end of the month of he was available.

After a few hours, I called again to see if Atlas could come home with us and try to explain how dedicated dog parents we are (caring for a sick dog for years, paying for veterinary care and bringing him for checkups and screenings regularly, and in the end finding and driving him to his original vet who just recently moved away just so he would be comfortable (trusting her) during his unfortunate but inevitable planned ending of life procedure). Driving back to Butte would have been absolutely no problem to get his alteration done.

I recently had to put down my dog just due to old age. The Dr. and his assistant were spectacular. They made everything so easy for both me and my dog. So empathetic and loving. Made a difficult and heartwrenching situation very easier to get through. THANK YOU ♥️

Took my Chihuahua yesterday for her vaccinations. Plenty of parking outside. Staff was professional and friendly and expertly separated the more aggressive dogs from the smaller ones. My dog got all her vaccines for $81 and we got the appt in less than a week. Prices were better than one of those shot clinics and we were in and out in no time. Definitely recommend this place for your veterinary needs.

It's a nice place, very clean, and the people that work there are very nice. It's just sad to see all the dogs that need homes😢.

I have a female American bully who is the sweetest dog ever but is reactive which can be intimidating…. The girls at the clinic handled her vaccines so well , they knew what they were doing and were very fast ! We also had a spay scheduled and were given medication to help calm her before the appointment, once again the girls took her back with no problems . We appreciate them handling everything to the best of their abilities because like I mentioned our fur baby can be intimidating… Highly recommend 💕

BHS Adoption center was super awesome! My boyfriend and I came in early November to look at adopting a cat. The staff was super patient with us as we looked at all the furry friends, and very friendly when showing us around! They made our experience of adopting really easy. We adopted Padme, she had been there the longest out of all the cats! I’m so glad we did because she has been nothing but a bundle of joy and playful fury! She loves to stalk us around corners, play in our dresser drawers, and wake us up with cuddles and sandpaper kisses. Thank you guys so much for bringing our little family together. Couldn’t be more happy.

I thought Butte Humane Society was supposed to care about humane treatment of animals, but from what I witnessed it was the complete opposite! After doing my research, I decided to visit. But when I got there, I was shocked and disgusted to see volunteers using prong collars on the dogs! This is NOT what I expected from a place that supposedly prioritizes the welfare of animals.

I ended up leaving and going elsewhere. If Butte Humane Society really cared about the well-being of dogs, they’d stick to the humane methods they preach about online instead of subjecting animals to outdated, harmful tools like prong collars. Absolutely unacceptable and misleading!
