I didnโ€™t know the significance of this church until today when I was schooled on its importance during the civil rights movement and being the meeting spot when organizers had to change locations due to being tracked at their original meeting point. But this church was the starting point for the Selma-to-Montgomery marches.

Incredible to visit a critical point for the civil rights movement and see how abandoned it is. There are signs with good information

Just as a passing-by tourist, this is a really cool building with lots of history. It's easy to find and park for free, it is in the middle of the projects but I didn't feel in any danger at all. There's a really nice sculpture monument to MLK out front.

The church is undergoing maintenance at this time, but it was still neat to see. In the 60s, blacks weren't allowed to congregate in large numbers except at church, so the leaders of the variuos civil rights organizations congregated here and other churches to teach non violent protesting.
