I as well as approx 10 other families had received confirmation that our children were enrolled in a free summer program called “After Blast” that ran after their new rolled out summer program from 8-2. I received two confirmations that my child was enrolled and I didn’t need to do anything else. Today was the first day of this summer blast program and I got a call at 230pm notifying me that my son wasn’t enrolled and I would have to come and get him. I’m a full time single working Mom who thought the summer childcare was set. I get to the school and there are many other children who were also promised spots in the program but apparently the school district and boys and girls club messed up and now there are about twelve children without summer care. They then stated that we just needed to log in and complete a final step and that they had the room for all the kids but then we all log on and are being told that there is no availability. I can’t believe that they would do this to so many families and not find the additional staff to take the kids on. My child may now not get to go to summer school as I can’t find anyone to pick him up and there are no other summer programs as they have all filled up. If I had known he didn’t have a spot I would have been able to secure another option. I would not recommend Boys and Girls Club as they left so many parents high and dry. If anyone would like to also get involved I’ve attached proof.

I have had two children utilize the break camps and the Bright Futures program for many years and I am grateful that the Boys & Girls Club of South San Luis Obispo County powers these programs. Childcare is scarce and can be very expensive. The programs offered help fill a void while providing an educational, enriching, fun, and safe space for my children. I have also had the pleasure of participating in several of their adult and family events outside of these programs and appreciate the opportunities to paint, learn to cook, mingle with other parents/families over a game night and more.

I currently attend bright futures for the past eight years ever since I was in first grade the environment sometimes could be good, great maybe but overall it’s an all right environment. Sometimes it could be terrible. I had a teacher that worked at bright futures that I know of and he quit like maybe six months ago. He was apparently not getting paid right and the boss was a jerk. And then it came to a point where he was fed up and just straight up quit. They didn’t even give a two week notice. another thing I’m concerned about is the staff training as some staff Get confused or or something happening amongst the group of people and sometimes they don’t do anything about if they got seriously hurt or or getting bullied because of this club they don’t do anything about it. this is why I’mleaving the 1 star review

Since they took over Bright Futures, I've seen nothing but chaos; my kids/grandkids have to ASK to do homework and if my kids don't have supplies, none are offered. Before, they were told it was homework time, were given tubs of homework supplies, help was offered, homework checked.
Last week, my daughter picked up her daughter andmine. Both 7. Not a teacher was in in sight. My 12 year old witnessed the event, seeing nobody around. My daughter, who is an approved pickup person, had to leave, should have waited, didn't. But she left with the girls. Nearly TWO HOURS LATER first contact is made with my husband, who normally gets them. The excuse was another teacher was signing out another kid. It was repeated multiple times by staff. Husband asked why, two HOURS LATER, he was just hearing about it. Next day, story from staff changed into the girls talking back and not following directions and they wanted my husband to sign a referral indicating the same. He didn't because it was bs and they were attempting to cover up the TWO HOURS NOBODY made contact. My girls don't talk back, either. They constantly get good behavior awards. Whatever they're trying to do doesn't change that for 2 hours they said absolutely nothing. If a teacher were around, they'd have made my daughter sign them out. If my girls really did talk back and run off like the referral says, the teacher would have responsibly run after. She didn't. So in a way, the referral only makes BG look WORSE in that they would have seen them run off and had done nothing to stop it. It was the first time my daughter went to pick up early, too.
Don't trust these people with the safety of your child, don't expect them to assist with homework, don't expect them to run Bright Futures orderly, and don't expect them to even care because they'll try to turn it around and lie, anyway. Thank goodness calls are recorded. After I post this, I'm contacting The Tribune and news stations
