My husbanMy husband and I have been coming to do donation drops through our World Peace Initiative since the hurricane. I had no desire to go to the larger communities in the area because places like Wilkes County get passed through so often and feel the burden of travelers passing through consistently.

We were so so pleased with Anchor Ridge. The last time we came we spoke with a volunteer named Janet, she was friendly, kind and very helpful.

We stand with Anchor Ridge- they have been there since before the hurricane and will continue to be there far after the rest of the state forgets about the people in the isolated areas and underfunded communities in Western NC.

We are not religious people but we honestly didn't mind being at Anchor Ridge because it wasn't overtly religious.

When I came to Anchor Ridge for our first donation drop with my mom and children ... I was frazzled. I had called the EM and emailed him a few times and couldn't get in touch with him. So we stopped in at Dom's Pizzeria and Bakery and I asked the equally friendly waitress there where donation drops were happeninh and she pointed us to Anchor Ridge...

A week later we had reached out to one of the host from the hip camp that we stayed with and asked how they were doing and if they needed anything and let them know we'd be coming over to Wilkes county to do a drop if they needed anything. When we told her we were doing our drop at Anchor Ridge she was ecstatic that we had chosen to go through anchor ridge.

The GV: World Peace Initiative appreciates the transparency and kindness of the volunteers and community members that help keep Anchor Ridge a float. This is why we have dedicated our time and efforts to helping in the recovery of areas like Wilkes county because of the community and support shown through the kindness of strangers for the common goal
of helping make a strong community!

Thank you Guys so so much!

They say it's better to give than to receive and if this is true then I don't believe you will find a better place in North Carolina. The people who work and load and help and sort and the other things I can't even imagine all of them that make this go off without a hitch. They are truly heroes and most likely will never be recognized except by the local community for the diligent steadfast determination in helping their neighbors and all neighbors across the affected region. In the '70s it was very popular to see a picture of a romantic scene and the words love is... Beneath it.
When I think of love is now I think of anchor ridge and the loving community heroes that report there and do everything they can in hopes of a better tomorrow.

I went to anchor ridge this week because I was told they were giving disaster relief supplies to those we ho may have had damage to their homes. When I got there I asked where I needed to sign in and I was stopped by a skinny woman that was loud spoken with curly black hair telling me wait we were entrusted with this to go to the flood victims and an older woman came up and said what was you needing food? I told them that the main thing I needed was two or three good tarps to cover my roof where Helene had ripped some of my metal off to keep it from leaking. The older heavy set woman then said I don't think we have anymore when I had literally just walked by a full palette of heavy black tarps that was about 5 foot high the heavy set woman said yeah we just now got a call about tarps and all of them are going to be picked up in just a minute. Meanwhile my husband and I had been observing Mexican families dressed to the 9's and driving nice fancy cars coming in and were getting heaters and coolers and stoves and big buggies of stuff and getting all kinds of stuff from the storm victims supplies area that I had been told was not for anyone here! I guess my skin wasn't brown enough or I didn't have enough money to get any charities. The younger woman did ask me was there anything else you needed and when I told her no not really I just don't have the money for tarps and I just needed two or three tarps to cover my roof that was damaged by the storm!! She did go back there and get me a sign that was made to be a billboard for a tractor trailer. It won't even cover one side of my roof but I did appreciate the offer but I just needed two or three of the good heavy tarps because it's almost winter and I have been out of we work for three months having no income coming in due to me breaking my sternum and cracking my T10 and have only been back to work for three weeks now. Just because I didn't have everything washed away don't mean that I didn't have damage to my home. I needed help but couldn't get it but others who were obviously not in my situation and haveing plenty of money from the looks of it, were leaving with all kinds of stuff with their cars packed full and I couldn't get three measly tarps to keep my home dry this winter until I can fix it I don't get it! #KeithQueen you are a wonderful person for donating to the people of Wilkes but I just want you
to know that I live in Wilkes and couldn't get the help I needed from them so I just hope and pray that what you gave went to people that really needed it!
