Visited the American Village today on a field trip with my son and his 6th grade class. I went expecting a replica town from the revolutionary war period with lots of reading facts and looking at pictures. What we experienced was a whole crew of talented reenactors who were in character whether working their area, or just meeting them on the sidewalk.

We started the day in a town meeting at the Colonial Chapel, then had a lively meeting of the Virginia Convention at the Courthouse. From there, we learned about musket guns and that it required at least two teeth, preferably one on top and one on bottom, to open the packet of gunpowder. The person working the musket station was a crowd favorite among the kids and the adults!

We learned about the use of secret coding and messaging among the patriots, Paul Revere’s midnight ride, and so much more! If you get a chance to go, I recommend 10 out of 10 ?!

We went to get tulips so I can only speak on that topic. It was muddy and the flowers seemed picked over BUT I got a variety (I picked tulips that had just started to bloom) and they are beautiful. My nieces went with me and loved it. I think they should offer BOGO for admission or other discount when the grounds are so messy. I will go again next year.

We had a fabulous time there on July 4th. It was really hot. There were reenactments, lectures by Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and many others. Many food trucks for lunch. Historical building examples and lots of history available.

The absolute best celebration of Independence Day. You can make a whole day event out of it or go for the evening and experience a true celebration that goes beyond fireworks. The reading of the Declaration of Independence, The Pledge of Allegiance led by the kids, the presenting of the military flags, and the National Anthem with an amazing fireworks display. A great way to teach and remind your kids what the 4th of July is about.

Great historical information about the U.S. Tulip festival was nice! We were eager to go. Should have been a little more patient since it was the first weekend it was open. Not a lot of flowers to see yet. If you want to see more, wait until 2nd or 3rd weekend (unless you are local, then go every weekend). Was soggy due to lots of rain the past month. Wear boots or sneakers you don’t mind getting muddy.

The Tulip Festival was fantastic! We've been on tours of the entire grounds. Great replicas of historical building from Virginia, DC and Philadelphia. Outstanding new Veterans Memorial building. If you enjoy history, this place is a must see!!!

GREAT field trip. Lots of things to see and learn--the actors and tour guides take their job seriously and make it a wonderful experience! Also we visited during the tulip festival--beautiful!

There was not another guest in the entire place but the bored, efficient guy in the golf cart took great pride in following me over to the tulip tent so he could regulate me and lecture me about the rules. ( there were hundreds of empty parking places ... I was in nobody’s way ... this old codger had nothing better to do than to chase me down so he could show his importance). What a boring replica of “history.” No wonder nobody was visiting. I just wasted $9. Never again.
