This organization has miserably failed to adhere to their mission of the Alabama Forestry Association is to “Promote good stewardship of our renewable forest resources for the benefit of society and the forestry community.”

Hosting canned pigeon shoots as a fundraiser only promotes animal cruelty. These pigeons are left in a field to die by means of predation, starvation or infection.  My family hunts and I fully supportive of hunting. These pigeon shoots are NOT hunting.

This is a cruel act of slaughter and ruins the reputation of our hunters. There is no sportsmanship involved in this event! Anyone that participated in this event or any of the other canned pigeon hunts hosted by the AFA and everyone involved in this 'association', should be ashamed.

We should all speak out against these events and this organization.

I am disappointed that the AFA thinks it’s fun to kill cage raised pigeons in order to raise money. These pigeon shoots are not hunting. The people paying to shoot pigeons are not hunters but sociopaths. They shoot and kill hundreds of birds and leave them in the field to rot. The ones that are wounded are left to die a slow death from predation, infection or starvation. The AFA has failed miserably as an organization. I am an Alabama landowner and hunter but I can’t believe that these shoots are not illegal. However, any rational person should know they are immoral. Stop supporting the AFA until they have leadership that make better decisions.

The work the forestry association does for students in assisting them in finding quality careers is really incredible. The time and energy they put into shaping young lives really says a lot about who they are as an organization. They are doing great things to educate the public about forestry and it's importance to Alabama's economy. Keep up the good work!

As an organization whose mission statement is “Promote good stewardship of our renewable forest resources for the benefit of society and the forestry community.”, it should be hard for you to justify the actions and cruelty that your organization has perpetuated. By hosting your canned pigeon shoot fundraiser, you have effectively said that raising money for your organization is more important than being good stewards of natural resources that you claim to be so important. These animals were left wounded and killed in the middle a field, where those that survived most would likely die from starvation or infection. Your promotion of these types of hunting practices are abhorrent. You throw disoriented pigeons into a situation where they have no chance of survival and you call this a “hunt”. There is no sportsmanship in this practice. There is no hunt; just a slaughter of animals that are not going to be eaten. Essentially, a waste of wildlife and renewable resources.
As an Alabama land owner and hunter, I am absolute disgusted by your organization taking part in these practices. I think it is time for the AFA to find a new form of fundraising that is not a display of cruelty and lack of sportsmanship.

The staff of the AFA work tirelessly to promote the forestry industry in Alabama. This industry is one of, if not the top industries in our state, and the goal of the AFA is support every aspect of it. Never forget--trees are a RENEWABLE resource!

Came here for a dinner and a meeting. Great meeting location and the staff was so hospitable. They have a passion for working for the forestry community of Alabama and do a great job at it.

Allegedly this group sponsored a pigeon shoot which left dozens of birds dead and many others wounded and left to die. You people need some street justice. The cruelty of this shoot is inexcusable. It would be different if the purpose of the shoot was hunting, and the birds would be used as food.

The work that the AFA does for Alabama is truly remarkable and should serve as a template for other organizations on the local, state, and national levels.
