One of the main reasons I joined this gym is for the sauna and it’s literally “out of service” once a month. They also don’t send any kind of notice when it is broken.

This is in response to the negative comment as a regular YMCA member for years. The facility is nice and the employees are friendly. Every now and then some members seem to fill entitled to insist on rules that don’t meet the needs of all YMCA members, for example the pool temperature in the indoor pool should be set a temperature to allow for those swimming to not get overheated. The facility is clean, yet some members seem to want special privileges to sanitize locker rooms
in a way that one may sanitize their home. I recommend those members considering building a pool at their home and a gym facility. Specifically I appreciate how the YMCA values ensuring that young children are learning to swim, which is a life skill that everyone needs to have, even if that means that the pool area has to be shared. Thanks for being awesome! We love the YMCA!

This is one of the more “equipped” among the Ys in the area, steam room, sauna, outdoor pool, and a coffeemaker that I don’t see anywhere else, it’s a little effort for a great deal of extra credit in my opinion.
Tons of gym equipment, yet could still be overcrowded, especially the weightlifting area. You do have to share a limited amount of weight with many other people, I have never seen a shortage yet but if you’re some sort of hardcore bodybuilder I can definitely tell the weights could be unavailable occasionally for you.
In respect to the recent negative comment, the indoor pool is meant to be cold for cooling down overheated lap swimmers, if one’s actually doing any amount of effective water exercise, one shouldn’t feel the cold after like the initial 30 seconds.
Little trick, jump right into the water from the 10 ft side of the pool, may sound crazy for you but you won’t actually feel any cold.
On the other hand if you really can’t handle it due to medical reasons, just get your sunscreen and use the outdoor pool, it’s a lot warmer.
Not following your direction is not considered condescending, it’s a PUBLIC facility.

I like the Finely YMCA. Always very clean with a very nice facility and friendly staff. The members at this location clean up after themselves, put weights back, and wipe down the equipment when they are finished. I love the atmosphere and the energy I get when training here.

The gym can get very busy, and there will be lots of people. But I’ve never had a problem getting my workout done. Sharing equipment and asking someone if they would like to work in goes a long way.

Good times.

They can't seem to find a way to fix the steam room. It's broken every other week. It's now been broken for over 2 weeks. This keeps happening over and over again. They don't care that its broken, they just post a sign saying "our operations department is working on it", lol. For 3 weeks they've been working on it. It must be the most sophiscated steam room in the country. It always takes them at least a month to get it working again.

After two and a half years I decided to end our membership at the Y (in my case A E Finley in Raleigh).
It has a rigid policy and is refusing to consider any requests, suggestions for improvement, and correct unfair practices. Everything was denied and the directors always found a excuses why not to accept it
Water temperature in the indoor pool way too cold for water fitness
Aquatic director refused to post the daily indoor pool temp on their website
Admin of Facebook aquatic group will not allow members to post questions without an approval
Ladies’ locker room: healthy living director refused to provide disinfectant wipes to wipe benches, or inside lockers.
Floors in showers and bathroom are filthy. I was there 3 times a week and rarely saw an housekeeper cleaning the locker-room.
Not enough benches or benches too small no chairs to sit down and change (3 legs stool isn’t a chair!)
Conducting swimming classes for a very noisy large group of young children at the same time while water fitness was on.
* I give 5 stars for the front desk staff for being kind and helpful, and for the great water fitness instructors.

I have been to most ymcas in the triangle and come to this one during the summer.Compared to the other ymcas in the the triangle the equipment is not updated like the other ymcas and some equipment squeaks/doesn’t work properly, no exercise loop bands you can use, the machines and locker room are not the cleanest like other ymcas around the triangle and I barely see anyone cleaning floors or machines, and Small towels need replacing! Front desk staff are friendly and they offer coffee at this location which is nice! They need to hire people to clean or do a better job and replace machines ! Kraft, Taylor, and Alexander all have more updated equipment that functions properly why doen’t this one? Also, the camp kids look bored wouldn’t send my kids to camp here that’s just my opinion watching them.

I primarily use the basketball courts for my workouts, fully aware that the courts are used for multiple activities. With this understanding, a schedule is ESSENTIAL for all members so that specific activities can take place during their allotted times and everyone is aware of those times. There have been several instances where I've gone to the courts and other activities are still being held, well past the posted time slot. There have been several times where I've gone to the courts and an activity is taking place that wasn't even scheduled. Fully understand that events have to be moved when circumstances dictate, but unacceptable when the Y app has a notification system to inform members of such changes BEFORE driving to the building.
