Elaine is one of them amazing people I have met. She was so patient with me and my husband and helped us when we needed it the most. I was lost scared and didn't know where to turn. Without them I don't know what would have happened or how things would have turned out!

Unfortunately my family needed help a few times in the past. Each time i tried Horizon house for help because i have two young children. I interacted with several different employees and was met with condescention and annoyance every time. My first phone call to them was early evening and i was told to sleep in my car at mcdonalds and "try to make it fun for the kids." They were only ages 3 and 4 years old at the time. It took 5 visits over 2 days before i was allowed shelter for only one night. The last time i called i was flat out turned away because i said i tried every other resource i could before calling them, i said i left a message at the number for CHIRP but had not heard back from anyone yet. As soon as i mentioned their competitor, the woman told me she could no longer speak to me and hung up.
I was shocked at the horrible way this charitable organization treated a family in need on 3 separate occassions. Kicking a person when they are already down is despicable behavior. The last thing a family needs when they are going through an already stressful and terrifying situation is to be made to feel ashamed. Its hard enough to ask for help. Ive learned if i ever need help again, not to waste my time calling Horizon house.
