The experience with DSS has been nothing short of exasperating. From the interminable wait times to the apparent lack of training among staff, it's evident that the system is broken.
Trying to navigate the maze of phone calls and different agencies just to access basic health insurance is a nightmare. Even when supposedly resolving issues, the inconsistency among workers is appalling.
One day, you're assured everything is "all set," only to find out later that there's no record of your account whatsoever. It's a clear sign of incompetence and a lack of understanding of their own tools and procedures.
In summary, the dysfunction within DSS is not just inconvenient, but downright unacceptable. It's high time for a complete overhaul of the system to ensure that those in need receive the assistance they deserve, without the added stress and frustration.

I have legit been on the phone with them from 8am until 12pm when i decided to just hang up. I’ve been transferred multiple times to different people and none of them helped me. I was on hold for over an hour for the last time i was transferred. It’s ridiculous.

DSS canceled mine and my toddlers Husky insurance one month before giving birth. There was an issue of miscommunication between access health and Husky. I found out through my Access health online account that my Husky was canceled. I called them to discuss because I had been using my Husky at all appointments and it was being accepted. They couldn’t give me more information so they told me to call Husky directly. So I called Husky and they said it is not canceled and that I shouldn’t worry. I’m due to give birth in one month so I called Husky again to discuss coverage for my son given the issue with access health. They transferred me to DSS with the expectation that DSS would change my Husky from Husky D to Husky A given the pregnancy and it wouldn’t be an issue. But what actually happened was that apparently I should’ve lost my Husky a long time ago since Covid is over but because of a “glitch” in the system it was still active. The supervisor decided then and there to cancel my Husky within a few days. Now I’m scrambling trying to figure out what to do for health insurance for myself, my toddler and a baby. It’s absolutely unbelievable that they would do that to me a this time. I had also asked the rep I was speaking with to have the supervisor call me and they never did.

I called dss 10 times between Thursday and Monday, spoke to 5 people who which all could not help me and I was on hold so long my phone hung up, it’s unexceptable and it’s ridiculous and they messed up my paperwork and I still can’t get anyone to fix it without being on hold, I’m about to call the senators office to report the unexceptable responses that I’ve been getting. I have to send my autistic son down there just to get me a supervisor on the phone.

This is in relation to an interaction I had over the phone with a DSS employee, not sure where she was located. Danielle was very helpful and stayed on the phone with me until my issue was resolved. Because of her, I was able to resolve my issue before having to have a phone hearing. She took the time to read through my file and I submitted any other information needed while she was on the phone. She made it very straightforward and simple for me. Thank you Danielle!

1 hour and counting. I'm still on hold, no notice of where I am in the queue. Simply "due to larger than normal call volume you may experience a longer wait". IMHO, if there are so many people on welfare and genuinely in need of a job, create more damn call centers and give them a job! Get calls through faster and more people off of government assistance. Two birds, one stone.

I am absolutely appalled with how I was treated from one of the case workers I just got off the phone with, he basically accused me of lying by saying my pay stubs looked suspicious and that in my line of work he has never heard of the company or of any shows that my company does that are in CT, or any shows from any company in CT for that matter. I’m sorry but some of these case workers need to get off their high horse because your just case workers, your no one special, and clearly you’ve never been in a situation where you have no food or a stable place you can call home with a child so you wouldn’t know how it feels to be on the other end. We are humans too, you cannot treat us however you feel just because you feel our lives rest on the hands of your decision making. Some of us are honest people just trying to get out of our holes and succeed. God sure don’t like ugly and how you treat people is how God will handle you. And because of these case workers that have no compassion or understanding you make the rest of the case workers that truly take their job seriously look bad.
