My father went to Abernethy Laurels rehab after breaking his hip in late December. He then transitioned to skilled nursing and recently moved to the assisted living section. We could not imagine a better place for dad! The facility is top notch…very clean, caring and knowledgeable staff, residents get to choose their meals, many options of places to be in the facility (library, game room, sun rooms, pool table, gym, coffee shop, bistro, puzzle room, etc) and many activities. The staff is caring and tries to get everyone involved! The physical therapists are teaching my dad to play golf on the Wii (he’s almost 90) The staff have done an excellent job helping my dad transition to his new life. It’s a relief to know he’s in good hands!

I stayed at the Abernethy Laurels Rehab for 5 weeks. I loved my time there. The staff, Doctors, PAs, PT & OT therapists & custodial persons were fantastic in helping me to get through some tough times. I had an ORIF repair of the patella, staph infection of the bone, a wound that was not healing, & high blood pressure problem when I arrived. They felt like family to me and really cared about my well being. The food was good and I had choices. The head of the cafeteria came by often to see how I liked the food and would make sure I got a wanted item. I even got well enough to play games for activity and to go to church provided at the facility. I worked at staying positive and pleasant and so did all staff at Abernethy Laurels that helped me. It was a pleasant experience.
I am 78 yrs old and if I need to back to a facility, I would choose Abernethy.

We chose this facility for inpatient PT/OT thinking it was great choice after reading all the reviews. Boy, were we surprised! Long story short, they didn’t change her clothes, no bathing, no diaper changes to the point she got a UTI. She wouldn’t eat the food because it was nasty and there was no supplement offered. She lost 9lbs sitting in her bed except for the short time they did PT with her. If you love your parents, DO NOT SEND THEM HERE! Absolutely horrible experience. And don’t take clothes you like because you won’t get them back. Lo and behold they didn’t send in her prescription for the UTI. I called and spoke to Lisa and she seemed like she had an attitude, didn’t say much other than I’ll call you back. Guess what, no call back! I will be calling the state in the AM!

What a blessing Abenethy Laurels was for me and my family! My mom fell and had to have 4 surgeries. During this time she had to have very sterile wound care, watching her blood pressure and antibiotics given every 8 hours. While she was otherwise very healthy, we needed a place to could take care of her. I slept well at night knowing that he every need was met- the nurses, physical and occupational therapists- everyone was incredible. My mom has said several times how glad she was that she was there and if we ever needed her to go back - she would- I think that explains my 5 star rating! Thank you!

Yes it’s about the money I really hate to see the residence being taken advantage of.They have changed their membership of their gym.Now you’ll pay 40.00 a month whether you go or not. I’ve never seen anyone operate like this. I’ve seen seen their hot tub down for 3 months. I’ve seen their pool down as we speak. ( no heater ) I’ve seen their tread mills down.You think this is going to change anything.No it’s been happening for years. I’d be ashamed to say I cleaned the bathroom there small bugs everywhere. I inquired about them once they got rid of them but there back as we speak. I hope you have a nice time if you have anything to work with. You may want to really want to try somewhere else. O don’t try and find out when something will be fixed cause nobody knows.

My mother in law has been there for
4 years. They are so super good to her. I now work there and i see the love and compassion they have for the residents. I highly recommend them for your loved ones

Abernethy Laurels is top notch. Our mother was in several places before we find Abernethy Laurels. (thank heaven). Then she was a resident on Faith Court for 4 years and passed away recently. She loved the food, but not her medicine (haha). The staff of doctors, nurses, aids and med techs always went above and beyond there duties to care for her. The church services and activities personnel provided video chats which added meaningful times to her life and ours. There were several times in which she had to use PT and transportation. The teams were awesome with scheduling and with helping to care for her. She loved to get her hair done by the salon whom also made her feel beautiful. They would always a smile on their face and love in the hearts. Even on really hard days, they made her feel secure and loved. It takes special "Angels" to work in memory care. They treated her with respect as if she was their own mother or grandmother. She will be truly missed in our hearts. Faith Court was her other family. We are truly grateful for your dedication to our Mother.

Beware of Abernethy Laurels. While the facility may appear attractive with its appealing stonework and surroundings, the reality beneath the surface is deeply troubling. The community suffers from severe mismanagement, including inconsistent care, understaffing, and a concerning number of over-medicated residents.

Despite its Christian facade, Abernethy Laurels falls short in providing genuine care. Residents are frequently mishandled, resulting in preventable injuries like bruises and falls. The food served is substandard, often delivered inconsistently and unsuitable for residents with specific needs such as those who cannot feed themselves due to conditions like stroke or dementia.

The leadership at Abernethy Laurels is equally problematic. Executive Director Amber M is detached and ineffective, delegating responsibilities without addressing the core issues and blaming staffing problems for the facility's failures. Complaints to her are met with hostility, and families are often reprimanded rather than receiving constructive support.

Nita H, who handles accounting and billing, is unresponsive, rude, and fails to manage the billing process effectively. She frequently provides incorrect information about insurance claims and overcharges for services not rendered.

Lisa U, a key figure in the care community, lures families in with promises but delivers consistently poor and impersonal service. The Director of Nursing, Sundee, is underqualified, resulting in chaotic care during second and third shifts, which negatively impacts residents.

My own experience with Abernethy Laurels was marked by repeated failures. My mother suffered multiple injuries, often went without proper bathing or feeding, and ultimately died while under their care. The lack of oversight in both staffing and care practices is alarming. Medication management is careless, with no checks for drug interactions, leading to overdoses and other severe issues. My mother even required Narcan due to an overdose and experienced a fall that resulted in a broken bone. She was left unable to eat properly because the food provided was unsuitable for her condition.

The staff’s attitude towards residents is often uncaring, and there is a troubling culture of secrecy and dishonesty. The administration’s poor practices are evident in their attempts to hide upcharges and mistakes in billing. The hospice service, Carolina Care, used by Abernethy Laurels, is also inadequate and contributed to my mother’s decline.

While some staff members, like activities director Serena, demonstrate genuine care and competence, they are overshadowed by the overall failure of the administration. The social worker, Kristin, although initially promising, has become as disillusioned as the rest of the staff.

In summary, despite its outward appearance, Abernethy Laurels fails to provide the quality care it promises. If you consider placing a loved one here, be prepared for significant challenges. Monitor their care closely, be vigilant about billing practices, and understand that when you're not present, the level of care may fall short of acceptable standards.
