Haywood county animal control is absolutely worthless. Sick raccoon with distemper wandering around sick and suffering. Animal control said to euthenize it ourselves they won't do anything. If you won't do anything you need to be fired. Tax payer dollars hard at work here in Haywood county.

July 23rd, 2024 around 2:45pm my parents and i came to this shelter just to look at what they had, they ended up having some kittens my family was interested in but they were only 6 weeks old according to their paper describing them. We still decided to ask the front desk ladies about them and all we received back was rudeness and attitude. Did not get the specific lady’s name but she kept yelling at us repeatedly that those kittens were not available and they will not be conversing about them with us because they don’t know the future and they weren’t old enough yet. While we understood that, we just wanted some information about them because they were siamese’s and we knew they’d be taken pretty quickly once they were old enough. I completely understand having to repeat yourself every day because you have people asking the same questions everyday but she needs to learn some compassion and patience.

In the Fall of last year, my husband and I applied to be cat foster parents. We filled out the paperwork and scheduled an interview with the foster staff. I felt like our interview went well and our sincerity/interest was obvious. the head of the foster program was not available to interview us during our appointment, so it was facilitated by a different staff member that was pretty wishy washy about how the process works and our next steps. They said they would be in touch with us to set up our first foster. unfortunately we never heard from them. We recognized the pressing need for fosters in Haywood County and simply don’t understand why we, a willing and ready applicant, were not followed up with (even if the answer was no). At the time of our appointment, the urgency was obvious because we saw lots of office space at the shelter was converted into kitten play areas. it’s been 8 months since our application and interview, we will apply to foster with other organizations that will appropriately follow through with us.

I called late this morning about a goat that has been squatting on my property and sleeping in the barn messing up the hay and messing up my garden. He is cute but a nuisance. Even but at my pj's the other morning while I was cleaning up after my horse. So sadly to say I had to call for help in ridding of him.ido t know where he came from. So before 2:00 Lila Bible came to the rescue. And she surley was awesome. I was very impressed of her capture of that Billy goat. Just wanted to but in a positive word for this young lady .

Condescending and judgmental, this shelter offered no help in any way when trying to surrender an animal. Staff went out of their way to make the situation exponentially more difficult. No compassion.

This is the second round of issues I've had with them. A year previously I adopted a kitten who had FIP. Staff was aware, didn't say anything, and let me adopt a kitten to watch die.

I thought that surely this was a one off incident, but I was apparently wrong.

Reviews of shelters that encompass more than the adoption process are incredibly important. This is a county funded resource and should be treated as so. Concerns are not accounted for, but the funding still prevails.

The ladies at the front were so kind in showing us a kitty we found in a Facebook ad. Unfortunately she was not for us, however, the staff showed us several other rooms of fixed and treated cats. And that's where we discovered our new friend. She was let out and walked around to stretch some before we were all led into a side room to play and get to know each other. That day my grandma and I knew we found the new member of our family. The staff held her for us until we could pick her up the next day. The staff are professional, friendly, and accommodating. Their facility is clean and the animals are well kept. They let us interact with the cats available. Every cat available had their vaccination shots and were fixed. Currently, for a Christmas deal, each cat is ONLY $10.00. PLEASE, consider adopting a rescued cat (or any animal friend) this holiday and giving them a warm and loving home that they so deserve.
