Akua is where I got clean.

The staff is very patient and kind. Because of this, I eventually came around to opening my mind more. I didn’t want to participate in meetings and put minimal effort in facilitated group on the beginning. Over time, I felt more comfortable and staff shared their struggles and how they overcame it. I felt like I was able to face the destruction of my past and eventually did. The different groups that they provide help build a well rounded foundation and I thank them for the time clean I have today.

My time at AKUA's residential treatment program was truly transformative, and I can say with confidence that it has helped me become the man I am today. The staff was very knowledgeable, caring and accommodating through my early recovery efforts! Plenty of time is made to provide access to the gym, AA/NA meetings, healthy and delicious food, therapy, group sessions, down time and yoga to name a few of the highlights. I had my reservations before enrolling with Akua but by the end of my month-long time there I was sad to have to leave, knowing that I would miss all the staff and clients, as well as the tools they provided me to succeed within my next chapters of the recovery process. I plan to attend their Wednesday AA alumni meetings!

Frankly, I do not want to give them even one star. !!!!
My son was in this facility about 1.5 months ago. When he was admitted, I asked the staff a few times not to change the current medication since the medication was helpful a lot for my son. But they changed the medication, cutting off the old one and replaced with the new one ( I had informed that the new one did not help him before). After several days after they changed the med. my son's symptoms got worse and he was sent to the hospital. One week later, he went back to the Akua again, but he was sent to the hospital again since his symptom remained worse than before. And Akua refused to take him back when he was about to be discharged. I think they are so irresponsible, they just changed the medication ignoring my opinion even if I had asked not to change it a few times. My son is still struggling with much worse symptoms than being admitted in Akua. Now I regretted so much I had sent him there.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For a man like me Moving to California coming from a different walk of life,desperately seeking good treatment, THIS place is a true blessing. Every single one of the staff are good hearted and welcoming. I immediately felt a Positive energy and vibe when I first stepped foot through the doors. I've experienced so much about how to treat my addiction. Not only do they show you the comprehensive side of treatment, but also how to grow in the right direction mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Very clean and peaceful environment. The Food, the Atmosphere, All of the staff and the overall healing experience was WELL beyond my expectations. Despite their weird rules, Akua has helped me work through my diagnoses multiple times. I love how their program is set up, and when you need to go back they welcome you with open arms. There are one or two technicians there that should not be working in the field due to their incapacity to be compassionate with patients, but for the most part all the technicians are very knowledgeable. I always recommend this place to friends and family who are seeking treatment.

Words cannot expressed the love and respect I and many have for Akua and all of its staff members. I started my journey at residential there as angry as one individual could possibly be. Kristina my therapist brought me from metaphorical hell and back providing top tier grade A trauma and substance abuse therapy. I will forever be indebted to the superior help she has provided me giving me a new outlook and a chance at a happy fruitful life being clean and sober.
