Unbelievable, this place. There is nowhere to make an appointment on the Social Security website - you have to find the link in a QR code here in-person. Oh, but no walk-ins allowed. Huge waste of time - once we made an appointment, we waited two hours after the confirmed appointment time. Many others around us were waiting for long periods of time as well. Government watch-dogs need to get on this place because there is no accountability for poor management and poor service. As citizens we pay for this place with our taxes, and then they jerk us around and waste our time.

If you have an appointment you're in-and-out reasonably quick. The only reason I knocked off a star is because the system basically gave the staff (not the staff's fault!) the wrong ticket number and if they didn't call out my name at the last minute, I would have missed my appointment.

I had an appointment the first time we came. Security officer didn't help much about where to go. Waited almost 2 hours to find out we couldn't get anything that day. Second time I called, we couldn't get an appointment time. Security guard was very helpful and friendly. It's always a huge wait with so many people sitting around for a long time. It almost looks like many desks are not available to help you at this location. Extremely disappointed. 3 1/2 hours later. We accomplished what we needed.

Worst experience. I had an appointment at 10:10. Still waiting at 11:46. Why do you ask people to make an appointment if you are not able to see them at that time. This needs to change, ridiculous.
Edit: 12:22, they are now pretending they call my name twice which is obviously not true and are pretending that this is my fault. What a joke.

I had a good experience. I was able to resolve my issue. The SS rep was friendly, professional and helpful. She spent a lot of time with me, and was able to successfully fix the problem.

Worst service! Employee agents do not care about the citizens that they were hired to service. I waited to be serviced, only to be be told by an agent that I needed an appointment, as the signs read at the store
I completed information online and it stated that I didn't need an appointment. I was told there was no supervisor to speak to, regarding my concern. This office deserves zero stars!

SSA Silver Spring is staffed by sadistic individuals, they are incompetent, nasty, sadistic towards customers, no accountability, no sense of duty, they just refuse to serve you! This office is the worst government agency I have seen around the world, not juts the US, I have lived and worked in 10 different countries. I have never seen such level sadism, humiliation and abuse as I have seen in this office! this office is appalling! Someone needs to do do something about this office to make then accountable!

Customer service is great from beginning to end. The Security guard is polite, the lady that opens the office is nice and patient, and the person of window 15 gave me the answers I needed.
The cons:
A lot of elderly people waiting and I believe some people need a faster attention. The SSA needs to improve service across the different locations. Maybe open for senior citizens an hour early so they don’t wait a lot of the time standing.
I went at 8:10, waited the 50 minutes standing. It gets crowded.
-have ready your application filled online and printed or they can give an application to fill it out on site too if you are requesting a new card or changing immigration status
-if going to report earnings, take a copy of your tax return and a copy of the IRS transcript ? from the website under your account.
-the personnel warned people that at 10 am they take a break ? so if you lucky you can be seen before they are taking it. No good ?
-overall a good experience. Be patient, help when you can as I did. Be polite with seniors.
Have a pen, passport, copies of tax return, transcript, or anything else you need just in case!

Good luck.
I have to go to Greenbelt for my address, will tell you more when I go there.
