I've been going to the Bayview Y for 3+ years now. It's a solid neighborhood facility with friendly staff. I gave it 3/5 stars because:

1) It doesn't open until 8am. This is inconvenient for trying to schedule the gym in the morning before work. Other YMCAs around the City open at 5:30am, 6am, etc.– normal gym times – why is Bayview so late?

2) It is very easy to max out at this gym since dumbbells only go up to 50lbs. Even buying a set of dumbbells up to 100lb to complete the full set would be a huge improvement.

3) Additionally, if it's any kind of crowded – which in this space can be 6+ people – it can be frustrating to use because there aren't enough benches, sets of dumbbell, cable or smith machines, etc. Redundancy in equipment would help with gym flow.

All-in-all, if you live in the neighborhood, the Bayview YMCA is a good option for working fitness into your routine but it's also worth noting it's the only full-service gym between here and Mission Bay.

Run A way.
I saw too many people getting stuff to their cars in the parking lot,,
And I was shocked when I realize they are employees.
When I ask them what is the deal
They got me five boxes of diapers the neighbors free
To keep my mouth shut.

Really nice people and adequate workout area.

More free weights and basics like bench/squat rack etc would be nice but what they have works well enough. Generally not too busy in the weight and cardio rooms. They close way too early on the weekends, nearly a dealbreaker.

The Bayview YMCA customer service was great. The facility was very clean. Covid-19 safety protocol all the way through and I had a great workout. The weight room is open on Saturday.

They are horrible. My sibling went there and they were not supervised at all. It's not organized and rarely has an attendance sheet to sign your child in or out (so how would they know if your child did come there in the event that they go missing?). They are not organized, and while they hold dear relationships with the child they fail to keep them protected.

I wanted to lift weights and strength train, but the weight area was always occupied by ladies stretching and teenagers playing , The gym is not supervised, had no attendant, and there were ppl doing basketball drills, and jumpingjacks in the free weights area! REALLY? I knew I would not renew my membership when it was up, AND DIDNT!
