Volunteering at homeless not toothless was incredibly rewarding. The patients were very understanding and patient knowing they were receiving care from a dental student. They were also very thankful to be receiving treatment. It felt good making a difference in someone's life. In addition, I learned a lot in regards to dentistry and life from Dr. Jay.

While volunteering with Dr Grossman and his team at Homeless Not Toothless (HNT), I saw passion, charity, love, and respect for their patients. From simple restorations, extractions, to full mouth rehabilitation, the team’s drive was focused on making the patients better. Not just completing a procedure.

I am active duty Navy, and several of my family members are Veterans. HNT sees many Veterans, and non-Veterans. Each conversation I had with a brother/sister in arms clearly showed HNT cared more about the patient than just their teeth alone.
I am excited for the next time I can volunteer with HNT.

Homeless not toothless is an extraordinary place to be. The commitment and value which is provided is top notch. The quality of care is equal for all no matter what background you come from. Being an international dentist pursuing a career here in the US, and having shadowed/worked with multiple practices this place is definitely the best I’ve seen. Dr. Grossmans work ethic is simply phenomenal. More power to this place as it continues to change peoples lives forever.

I had such a fulfilling and wholesome experience volunteering at Homeless Not Toothless. I appreciate the time and care all of the staff and doctors allocated for our homeless veterans and victims of domestic abuse.

It is with a heavy heart that I come to share our experience that occurred at Homeless not Toothless this past May 29th (Monday) at 1:30pm. I initially has heard wonderful things and can attest to having had such a great interaction setting up the appointment. Once explaining of what was occurring to my husband (infected tooth needing to be removed) she immediately stated I will jump him ahead as this is a Medical ER and assured me, my husband was in the best hands and that given the excoriating pain he was in all would be well by that Monday. Knowing my husband was in dire pain I decided to arrive 30 mins earlier (1pm) to assist with paperwork fill outs or whatever need be. Upon entering, a Hispanic front desk associate stayed “oh your really early, like really early! you will still wait” something I would have completely understood as protocol, yet it was followed by a not so pleasant greet/facial expression. At that point, I decided not to think too much of it and fill the forms out. 10 mins later I receive a call from our 4 year olds school, I mentioned to my husband that I would step out to return the call and speak in a private space. To my utter surprise, not having even hung up the call I received a text from my husband stating “They have turned me away, and are unable to assist me” immediately I recalled the front desk stating Dr. was not ready to see him, so I knew he could not have possibly been seen within that short period of time. I ask him to walk back and ask the reasoning, embarrassed and almost crying in pain he says “let’s go, I didn’t even see the Dr. it appeared, they just wanted me out”. For an establishment whom prides themselves on inclusion, this was the worst possible decision what could have been made and in the manner it was made. 100 percent it should have been discussed by the Dr after he was “seen for HIS appointed time”. So many questions in my mind other than carrying for husband at the time. Where has the level headed, kind young woman whom I spoke with over the phone gone? Was it because I sit on a Board? Was he discriminated against? To think homeless men are cared for here? Not even follow up call? I could not phantom the pain he was in. The very next day we visited Western Dental they were so empathetic to what had occurred to us, apologized for how we were treated at Homeless not Toothless, took the tooth out and put him on antibiotics. They also informed us about turning away Medical ER’s. We are in the process of obtaining legal council.

Volunteering with Homeless Not Toothless in LA was deeply moving. Witnessing our veterans, often forgotten and marginalized, receive quality dental care while feeling embraced warmed my heart. It's a profound experience to be part of an organization that not only addresses oral health but also restores dignity to those who have sacrificed so much. The gratitude in their eyes is a testament to the impact we can make by extending compassion to the most vulnerable members of our community.

Homeless Not Toothless is a nonprofit that I have had the privilege to be heavily involved with for several months now. Dr. Jay Grossman is an extraordinary individual committed to leaving this planet better off than he found it. Dr. Grossman’s commitment to providing dental care to the less fortunate is remarkable. As a student pursuing a career in dentistry, the philanthropic mindset of Dr. Grossman is one that I hope to one day achieve as a future health care provider. Cheers to 27 years & the treatment of over 60,000 patients.
