In my experience, CASA of Ventura County is indifferent to the needs of children in the foster system and its volunteers. My wife, who was a special education teacher, spend a lot of time training to be a volunteer for CASA and traveling to Oxnard to spend time with her special needs foster child and helped with educational concerns. They had a great relationship. When COVID hit, my wife declined to get the experimental vaccine and CASA ended their relationship with a cold letter not acknowledging my wife's service and training. Many other volunteers were treated the same way. My wife's foster child's family was okay with no vaccine, and my wife agreed to maintain the 6' distance, wear a mask, meet outdoors or over the phone or computer, and the incidents of COVID in Ventura were very low. My wife wrote to CASA about her service and concerns as did many others and received no response. CASA could care less. CASA fails to maintain stable relationships for foster children and is a disservice to the community and waste of government funds. I'm not sure why they exist or why their management is so rude. Don't set your foster child up for another failed relationship and don't volunteer for this organization.

CASAs are well trained to provide caring, respectful support of foster youth and young adults.

I have had meaningful, positive experiences based on great supervision and staffing.

I encourage those interested in volunteering to investigate further. Being a CASA does take time and effort; by doing so, you can make true differences in another's life.

After lengthy training, I spent 10 months as a CASA of a foster teen, trying to advocate for them. Social services were determined that he return to an abusive and neglectful home, which the kid had run away from. The kid refused. CASA was in hoc with social worker and suppressed all my efforts to advocate for his emotional safety and financial needs. Zero interest in kid's welfare; every effort to avoid making waves. If not me, who will advocate for the kid? His voice completely ignored. CASA did not have much interest in the welfare of the kid
