Excellent, intense (at your own pace) kickboxing heavy bag workout. The trainers are incredibly motivational, creating a fun and friendly atmosphere with tons of encouragement from fellow members. At 55, working out here has helped me lose over 30 pounds and get into the best shape I’ve been in for a long time. I highly recommend checking this place out!

So I have been working on my health and joined this gym in Aug 0f 2023. It's been amazing!

The workout is a full body WORKOUT, you can lessen the intensity or increase it. The staff will help you modify, make it low impact or high impact. When I started I was burning 350 maybe 400 calories. Now I'm doing about 550.

The environment, well it is like family. No shaming no egos, no feeling as if what your doing is not enough (unless you arent then you get a gentle nudge). Each instructor has their own style, but all give a great work out.

Mentally there is no better place to leave your stress (ha coming from a Psychotherapist) there is generally a therapist working out in the class. Coming from a somatic approach being able to get physical, yell at the bag and work on your breath it's not only a physical work out but mental and somatic work out. I periodically do a group class there for clients.

I've gotten so much stronger and I am so much happier with my health, all my important numbers are down.

Updated Review-August 2024- just had my membership canceled and was kicked out supposedly due to being “in the way”! Seriously? Yes, I’m absolutely upset, especially since the accusations are from one coach only and mostly untrue.
A member since Spring of 2019 (at almost 1000classes), in 2022, I made the “mistake” of suggesting a change in the music since at that point there were songs I absolutely couldn’t stand to hear anymore. This was rudely denied as according to Asha/owner “there are over 40 different playlists”. Mind you, those have probably been used since the opening in 2016/2017! (As of 08/08/24 still no changes!) So I chose to use my earbuds in class and after a knee injury also created my own combos as I had to modify or substitute some exercises anyway. (Always making sure to stay within my space around my chosen bag!)
This was more or less accepted until April 2024 when CKO moved to a much, much smaller space and coaches still insist on jogging for warmup and during class. There is no space available if you cannot run! It’s either warmup on the sidewalk or take a break! Awesome strategy! So I arrived early for my warmup and started my bag work in between the hanging bags to stay out of the way of the joggers as much as possible and still get in my 60 minute workout. Coach Jennifer/owner Asha did not find this acceptable.
Go at your own pace-yes, but definitely not “Your Class/Your Time”!
To recap-exercise/concept is awesome! IF- you can do the exercises per the coaches instructions or are ok with taking breaks. And IF you don’t mind the endless repetitive music (mostly R&B/Hip Hop).

Originally I joined CKO South Bay to release stress and get rid of negative energy. I was reluctant at first since I've always been more of a team sports player. Didn't take long though to realize what an awesome workout it is and never thought I would like it as much as I do. Every class is challenging, I work out harder than I ever thought I would and leave sweaty and achy. There are still plenty of days where I have to convince myself to put on my workout clothes and go, but eventually I guess, my feel good hormones kick in and I start to enjoy it. I definitely can see a difference in my fitness and endurance levels and some of my favorite parts (and that's the truth) are actually the abs/core exercises. Everyone works out at their own pace and I modify any exercise that may be beyond me at that moment.
This past year, with the Covid restrictions and the added emotional stress, I honestly don't know how I would have gotten through it without the training. While I didn't do much of the online classes that were offered, I liked the rooftop classes and would like to thank Asha and the team for the care they took- and still take now that we're indoors- in keeping us motivated and safe. It is much appreciated!
CKO South Bay has a great atmosphere and amazing trainers, each with their own set of favorite exercises .They create fun, high energy classes every time and motivate you to give your best.

First class I was beat! I have moderate anemia and run out of energy fairly quickly, but I love that you can workout at your own pace. I had to slow down/moderate/stop at times and did not feel judged whatsoever. I did my second class last night (8-9 pm) and I loved it! I did arrive about 15 minutes late but was able to just jump right into it as if I never was late. Lol! I woke up in the morning looking forward to my next session and leaving all the stress of the world in that gym. If you’re thinking about it, this is your sign to join. I searched through a lot of reviews and different fitness gyms and even tried out a couple, but this one stuck. On top of all that, it is very affordable.

What is important to me is the people you surround yourself and dedicate your time to. I joined a few years ago, went in on 12/31 (starting out new year!) and knew instantly I found my spot. Asha was so engaging, friendly and informative. Her team of trainers and desk staff are simply the best in class! All shapes and athletic abilities are welcome in this gym. The classes are so fun and very challenging. The trainers will help modify your needs so if you are looking to burn more calories they will help you with that or if you need to modify a move they are there for you every step of the way. I spend a lot of time here and have gained new friends as well as became closer to my friends that joined the gym with me. This is my happy place!

This is my happy place! I come to CKO almost every day of the week and twice on Saturdays! The atmosphere is amazing. The trainers are fun and engaging, they really love what they do and make it a point to get to know every single one of their clients. The classes are open concept and you set your own pace, but they also allow you to challenge and push yourself to better your fitness and technique. In just a few months I've improved my endurance, strength, flexibility, and power, while really learning proper technique for a sport I've come to love. It's not your regular boring workout, it feels like I'm in the zone and giving it all I've got. I'm more than passionate about it -- I'm definitely addicted to CKO South Bay!
