LADIES BEWARE OF THIS PLACE! It's more of a cult than a safehouse! The rules are for complete control!

My experience at one of their safehouses started out okay until I had a cardiac episode, that's when it became an absolute nightmare! One of the nurses told me I was just having anxiety before bothering checking my pulse or having any knowledge of my medical history. No one ever called my emergency contact, my mother, when I was transported to the ER. What if I died!?

When I was released no one answered the phone for a very long time. Being hungry, unshowered and feeling exhausted in everyway I started to make plans to go home with my mother. I didn't feel safe at their "safehouse" after they failed to notify my emergency contact I was transported to the ER.

They refused to allow me to get my belongings because I checked out and I was driving a car I didn't arrive in. I was told to come to the main office the following morning to get my property. They didn't want an officer to come get it. They didn't wan to meet me at the ER because they didn't feel safe around my family.

I was told to meet them at the police department. They refused to come because I was with my mother and they told me they didn't feel comfortable picking me up from the police station because I had "someone" was with me.

All I wanted was my belongings so I could get my prescription and they gave me an extremely hard time with ridiculous "rules". They tell you nonsense protocols are for your safety but they are to further isolate, dominate and demoralize battered women.

I was told to contact the House of Ruth by my victim service officer. I was told that they will offer counseling for the domestic violence that I went through I was also told that they would provide some type of housing assistance or deposit assistance to get away from your abuser. Upon calling first I was told that they had a grant that I did not qualify for to call back around October for a potential grant that I would qualify for every time I will call back they will tell me they don't have any grants or funds they would repeatedly refer me to other places like Arch and ocap then finally when ocap has funds I asked for a referral the salesperson Miss Laura with no compassion in her voice tells me I need to wait till Monday after explaining to her about me being homeless about me sleeping in my car and below 18° whether she tells me to wait till Monday on a Tuesday these people have no compassion for a domestic violence victim they shouldn't even receive grants or services to help people because they are not helping people they helped who they want to help I definitely would not recommend this place I have dealt with them for about 8 months I have not received no calls no checkup know are you okay what can I do to help you know counseling no therapy nothing nothing you would think they would have compassion you would think they would have empathy you would think they would have sympathy for a victim of domestic violence and they do not. It's sad that these agencies receive grants to help people like me but doesn't doesn't even try to help doesn't even try to figure out how to help they don't care at all.
